FAIRY TALE 21: Closing Door

PERICLES

My chest pounded in intense nervousness when we heard that the People from the Monarch System are coming to our school. We assemble at the court and I try searching for Khallieleya.

"Khally!" I shout for her name. "KHALLY!"

"Eric!" A sweet voice replied.

"Khally! Wait! Diyan ka lang," ako na ang lumapit sa kaniya at bumeso rito. "How's your ankle?"

"Ayos lang. Salamat."

Umalma ang lahat nang mag-anunsyo ang isang guro na andito na sila. Kaysa bumalik sa aking klase ay pinunta ko si Khally sa likod ng mga estudyanteng dumalo at pinanuod namin ang pag-akyat ng isang matandang babae sa entablado. Ang sopistikada nitong tignan. Purong puti ang kasuotan nitong bestida tapos may tatak ng Monarch System sa kaniyang braso. Ginto ang kulay at may disenyong korona at may kamay sa ilalim nito. Parang buhat ng kamay ang korona.

"Good morning, students. I'm Lira Gutenberg from the Monarch System. Our visit is to announce the upcoming debut of our upperclassman. The name would be "Out of the Woods and into the Wild", a fairy tale theme of  The Lion King," nagpalakpakan ang mga upperclassmen namin at napa-'woah' kami ni Khally.

"Ang ganda ng theme nang debut nila Ate Vie."

"Kaya nga. I'm sure si Ate niyo Kheilanie ang gagawa nang kaniyang damit."

"Kaya nga. Pero sana hindi tumugma sa araw nang kaniyang kaarawan. Kadalasan ang debut ng kanilang debut ay November. Kaya sana naman ay hindi November." Napatango na lang ako dahil sinita kami nang mga guro na manahimik at makinig sa tagapag-salita namin.

"We would also like to inform you that we will perform an evaluation among students — all levels — on their academics and intellegence." Everyone gasps including Khally beside me. "This is to evaluate students who are learning and know what the Monarch System is."

"I don't like this." Komento ni Khally habang humahalukipkip.

"Me too," I admitted as well. "I feel like I'm going to fail. Khally, magiging kaklase ata kita sa susunod na year kung hindi ako papasa sa evaluation."

"Eric! Magtiwala ka sa sarili! Well, mas maganda kung maging kaklase kita, at least may kaibigan ako — pero dapat pumasa ka pa rin. Mas maganda kung makapagtapos ka na kasabay ang mga kaklase mo."

"I won't mind being stuck with a friend like you, Khally."

"I won't mind either. But think about your future. A year gap from the others is a miss on opportunities."

She's right. I'll miss so many opportunities. 

"I may miss some of my friends too."

"Ano 'yon?" Inosente niyang tanong.

"Wala."

Sumimangot ito at nakinig ulit kay Miss Lira Gutenberg. Dagdag niya rito na mangyayari ang evaluation sa susunod na linggo. Kaya naman sa susunod na mga araw ay wala kaming pasok upang makapaghanda raw kami.

What's even there to prepare for?!

"Khally... Help me," I plead and clamp our hands together.

She laughs awkwardly and smiles. "I don't know what to do as well. I'm sorry, Eric."

Great! I'm screwed.

I invited Khally for our preparations for the evaluation. We would be evaluated based on our etiquettes, estate affairs, and the People. While aristocrats such as dukes and duchess, viscounts and viscountess, are evaluated based on hospitality, businesses, and etiquette.
