AHSOKA TANO

Ahsoka was sitting in her room reading yet another article about human pregnancy on the HoloNet. It was the late afternoon, but she hadn’t bothered to get dressed. It was the one day in a seven-day cycle when there were no classes in the Jedi Temple, after all.

Most of the padawans were probably out, enjoying the still warm early fall on Cialone. She imagined that some of them were having lightsaber duels, or finishing up on extracurricular projects, or tinkering with their devices…

But her blissful feeling was shattered when the door opened. She jumped, and quickly turned off the screen of the holopad she had the article open on.

Lux rushed into the room, breathing heavily. He looked like he had just run the whole of the way back to her room from the Lookout – as it was his shift. But he began speaking before she even had the chance to say hello.

“Ahsoka, we have to go to Onderon right away!” he said, darting inside and closing the door. “And we’re going to need the Rebel Troopers!”

“What? Lux, what’s going on?” she asked, getting up. “Why–”

“I was just contacted by Saw Gerrera. He’s part of a rebel cell on Onderon, and he needs our help!”

She couldn’t help but stiffen a little at the name Gerrera, which she associated with Saw’s deceased sister, Steela. That’s all in the past, she reminded herself. Steela is gone, and Lux is yours now. Nothing can change that… Except, maybe, that you’re pregnant with his child.

She swallowed nervously at the thought, standing up. “Do you think they’re ready? I mean, we do have many of them, but not that many. The Imperial Troopers will outnumber us ten to one if this escalates into a full-scale civil war!”

“They are.” He smiled almost feverishly. “They have the new weapons and armor upgrades, and they’ve received that extra training in the last three years that will make them far superior to the Storm Troopers. And this is the chance they’ve been waiting for to prove themselves!”

“Lux, I don’t disagree, but this is bigger than anything we can handle.” When he shot a look in her direction, she looked away. “Or at least,” she amended, “without a really good plan.”

“And, courtesy of Bail Organa and Saw, I just happen to have one.”

“So you already contacted them?” She rolled her eyes. “Somehow, I should have seen that coming. There are few things closer to your heart than that system.”

“So you’re in?”

“Whoa, whoa! Don’t jump to conclusions,” she said, raising a hand. “Let’s hear this plan of yours, and then maybe we can bring it before the others.”

“Okay, let me get this straight. Your plan is to sneak a small task force down to the Onderon’s surface in the New Hope, to determine how to best take down the Imperial forces on Onderon, and then to fly in with the bulk of the fleet?” Ahsoka asked, in a tone that was near incredulous.

“Well, first we would head to their base on Morvolo,” Lux corrected. “But that’s the general idea.”

They had been discussing the finer points of his plan for an hour now. And, oddly enough, it bore an uncanny resemblance to the course of action that the Jedi Council had taken to help the original Onderonian rebels. But now was not the time to remember old times long gone.

She momentarily contemplated his sanity. “And who would go, exactly?”

“You and I,” he said, “and I imagine Amni, Christo, Anakin, Rex, Cody, and a few troopers.”

After a moment of silent reflection, she nodded. “I think that this could work. Would we take two ships?” Then she answered the question herself. “Nah, we’re good with the Hope.”

“So…?” Lux said hesitantly.

“So what?”

He put on a lower-grade version of what she liked to call his persuasive-politician smile. “So, are you in?”

She laughed. “Of course I’m in, you bantha! When do we leave?”

“Right now.”
