SAW GERRERA
Days passed. The Onderonian Rebels, the Jedi and the seven or eight squadrons of Rebels Troopers on Morvolo were hard-pressed keeping the enemy at bay. But exactly who this new enemy was, no one knew for sure.
And that was what worried Saw Gerrera the most. He had never seen more than one red lightsaber at a time, which had been during an unfortunate run-in with a Sith Inquisitor – well, for the Inquisitor, anyways. The guy hadn't seen what had been coming until it was right in front of his nose.
However, as he was outside in the middle of a snowstorm and firing at what looked like an army of Inquisitors, he had to keep his mind on the here and now.
"Aim for the left flank!" he yelled over the wind to his troops. For this fight, he was leading two squadrons of Rebels Troopers, who were far more adept at fighting against Sith, and a handful of his own soldiers. But even so, the shots deflected off of those lightsabers were taking them down one at a time without any trouble.
There wasn't anything left that they could do.
"Fall back!" he yelled. "Fall back to the lower ridge!"
The lower ridge was a snow bank near one of the cliffs holding the old cruiser that was the base in place. It was equipped with several gun emplacements, as well as an ion cannon with enough firepower to take down an Imperial cruiser. There was even a back entrance through the mountainside that led into the base should it be taken by enemies.
Time was running out. These were no Storm Troopers; they were fifty times more skilled. He only hoped that the cannon could be of some use, because nothing he had seen with this army was natural.
Nothing about any of this was natural.
He blasted a hole in a Sith that got a little too close. As he herded his soldiers back behind him, he watched the body fall to the ground. It fell, and then... turned into black and red dust!
He stifled a gasp, stopping in his tracks. "This isn't possible..."
This army wasn't even real! Then how were they able to kill the Rebels?
Suddenly he snapped out of it, turning around to run back towards the lower ridge with the rest of his forces. Ahsoka was in command there, and he could only pray that she knew something about this that he didn't.
ANAKIN SKYWALKER
Anakin felt the sudden rush of the presence of the Dark Side of the Force like an electric shock to his chest. For a moment, he nearly couldn't breathe. The fear, the anger, the hate... It was all too familiar.
At first he could sense Darth Maul's presence, and caught a glimpse of his plan. Once again, he was stuck outside of Maul's little playpen, merely a spectator in his latest game. Just as Obi-Wan had been when he had watched his Master die.
He had been overcome by the absolute need to warn Ahsoka, Padme, anybody what he had just seen. But that was before the presence hit. Now, there was only one option if he was to get out of this alive and save everyone he cared about.
He had to stand and fight.
As he wasn't wearing a big coat and boots, instead using the Force to keep himself warm in the unbearable cold, he shook off the hood of his cloak and pulled his lightsaber from his belt. The white beam of plasma cast its light across his face.
"It's time to end this," he whispered, turning around. Despite the howling wind of the raging snowstorm, he was certain that his opponent could hear him.
"It is," his enemy said simply. A single red lightsaber turned the surrounding snow crimson. A cape as black as night fluttered in the wind. Anakin could hear heavy, labored breathing from inside a shiny dark helmet.
"I will give you one chance to surrender, Vader," he called out to his doppelganger. "I was the one meant to live. Not you. The Force must come to balance."
Not even a twitch, no change in posture whatsoever. "It is I who must demand your surrender. I have allies with power you cannot even begin to understand. Allies who do not play by the rules."
"I was never much of a sucker for the rules, Darth," he said, using his twin's Sith title. He flashed a taunting smile. "You really should know that by now."
"You underestimate my power, that of the Dark Side." Anakin was just about to throw a mocking, 'Now where have I heard that before?' in his direction, as a reference to Mustafar, but something stopped him: a deadly ghost from the past.
"Grievous!" he fairly yelled. "What the hell are you doing here?"
