AMNI CHELSU

Amni sat in her room, enjoying a rare bit of free time, which she was choosing to fill with meditation. It was calming and it was practically the only thing that I kept her sane, with her definitely less-than-sane line of work as a Jedi Healer. She sometimes had to stay up for two days straight to make sure that she heard every complaint about a sore loose tooth, tended to every scraped knee and dealt with every headache...

But she was proud of the strict self-control that she was able to maintain for herself. She was always seen as a kind, caring doctor who always knew how to best help others. Though there was one case that she wasn't sure how to help...

Ahsoka was the party in question. There was something very off about the way she was carrying herself, something negative about her aura... And Amni was sure that she was carrying some sort of incredibly heavy mental burden, and it was affecting her in a very visible way.

To a trained medical eye, of course.

Her mind wasn't settling. It never did, not when she knew that she had a patient that was in her power to help. She stood up, leaving the mat on the floor where she had been meditating. Then left her room, which was conveniently right down the hall from the medical wing.

Amni had her retina scanned, then entered the passcode and walked inside. She made a beeline for the computer, sweeping past Jinoyar Arcani, one of her favorite students, who was carrying several datapads.

"Master, what's—" he started, but she cut him off.

"Not now, Jinoyar," she said, plugging her datachip into the computer console and typing in another passcode. Then, with the push of a button, she had access to the medical records of everyone in the New Jedi Temple.

Looking at the file under Ahsoka's name, she looked through the information. She was pretty sure that their Grand Master Jedi hadn't had a medical exam in the last little while, but she—

Amni stared at the results, openmouthed. Although she had never told anyone, she had a photographic memory — a trait not all that uncommon among Twi'leks — and she remembered the last time that Ahsoka had done the medical exam. It had been exactly three months and three days before the present day, but the computer was reading that she had had her most recent exam done just a month and a half ago!

That made no sense. Amni had an excellent memory, and always did every exam personally. And also, her weight was less than five kilograms more than what it had been a month and a half before. Ahsoka did have a high metabolism, as did most Togruta, but even so, no one could maintain such a consistent number unless they were on a really strict and effective diet.

Which Ahsoka definitely wasn't. She ate almost as many sweets as Semm did.

Which left only one real conclusion: Ahsoka had put the results in herself. But why? That was clearly the most pressing question to answer.

She was quite sure that Ahsoka wasn't displaying any of the usual signs of anorexia, and there were no diseases that didn't leave early indicators of their presence that she had picked up on the exam she had done herself. Which left little else to choose from.

Amni wasn't even aware that she had gone pale until Jinoyar asked her what was wrong. "It's nothing," she replied, but her words shook. "I have to go. Your question will have to wait, padawan."

"Yes, Master," he said. He apparently understood that this was a grave situation, but one that he didn't have the clearance to be informed on. So he was letting it drop.

She logged out of her account in the main computer, then slowly got up and walked out of the room, her rigid self-control mechanism kicking in. But as soon as she had reached the hallway, she broke into a sprint.

Breathing heavily as she ran into her room, she fumbled for her comlink, which was lying on her small bedside table, and knocked a datapad over in the process. She pushed the talk button, making her call.

She got the answering function, telling her that Ahsoka was busy, and to call back later or leave a message. She chose the second option. "Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?" she hissed, then regained her composure. That was no way to greet someone. "Ahsoka, this is Amni. Please call me back as soon as you can. We have something that we need to discuss."

*Amni has guessed Ahsoka's secret. But what could this mean, to her medically trained eye? Is there something else to her pregnancy that no one else could have predicted? You'll find out in the next thrilling chapter of The Unchronicled Adventures Of Ahsoka Tano!
