LUX BONTERI
Three days passed. Saw, Lux, the Jedi and what remained of the several squadrons of Rebel Troopers were busy repairing the base, recovering from the battle, and, for those of them that were injured, healing their injuries.
But even though it was all over, Lux was still worried. Ahsoka and Padme were still reeling from the blow that Anakin's death – or passing, as they were calling it, because he wasn't exactly dead – had slung in their direction. At least he had two shoulders for 'his girls', as he called them, to cry on, and two hands to hold.
As he lay next to a sleeping Ahsoka, with one arm wrapped protectively around her, he wondered what would happen next. He had thought he was an orphan. Now he had a father, a twin sister, and a younger brother, though Kanan didn't know it yet.
And Lux didn't know if he ever would. According to Jani, who had been fixing the few X-wings that could actually be repaired, Kanan had taken one of the undamaged ships and jumped into hyperspace. The clever boy had even thought to disable to homing beacon that was built into each of the fighters. He could be anywhere in the galaxy by now.
And, after a talk with Padme and Enarion (whom Lux wasn't sure if he was supposed to call Father or not), he had learned that his Senator's bank account was still active. They had enough money to support the entire army of Rebel Troopers – but not for long. He had begun planning to set up a mining facility on Bespin, but a man by the name of Dominic Raynor had beat him to the punch.
But he had looked into a few other places – namely the small, out-of-the-way planet Lothal. It was largely unexploited, despite being rich in iron ore, and – thankfully unknown to the Empire – there were also caves full of kyber crystals not far beneath the surface, which they could mine in secret for the New Jedi Order.
Suddenly, Ahsoka began to stir. "Hey, Socks," he murmured, kissing her forehead. "Did you have a nice nap?"
She nodded sleepily, before opening her beautiful blue eyes. "Yeah..." Suddenly, she sat bolt upright. "Wait! How long was I asleep for? I have patrols to do, I have to make sure that the other Jedi and the troopers are okay, I–"
"Hey," he said, interrupting her rant as he pulled her back down on the bed. "I got Saw to take care of it. I bribed him with a computer part he desperately needed."
"But I need to be up!"
"Ahsoka, no." He pulled her closer. "I talked to Amni. She did the math. You're scheduled to give birth in less than a week. And I, being the overprotective father-to-be, refuse to let you overexert yourself, which I'm sure you're going to do if I don't watch you."
He felt her smile against his shirt. "Finally, you admit it."
"Admit what?"
"That you're overprotective."
He feigned a look of confusion. "Really? I hadn't noticed!"
They both had a good laugh, but Ahsoka's comlink beeped, effectively cutting it off. She sat up to answer it. "This is Ahsoka."
"Hey, it's Saw. You and Lux–" Husband and wife exchanged a wide-eyed look, wondering how he had guessed that they were together, "–and yes, I know that you're somewhere cuddling right now! The two of you are expected to attend a briefing in Watcher's office in ten."
"All right. We'll be there," Ahsoka reassured him. "Tano out."
Lux was about to protest her going, but she held up a hand before he could say anything. "No. I'm going, and that's final. You can turn off your overprotectiveness for an hour, can't you?"
"Okay, fine." He grinned wickedly. "Damn, why did I have to marry such a stubborn little Togruta girl who's somehow always right?" he teased, pulling her back into his arms.
"Well, it's not my fault that you go as limp as a wilted plant when I try to press a point! Or, most of the time, at least," she amended.
"Being in love and nearly dying for the ninth time has a way of doing that," he whispered, kissing her along the jaw.
"Tenth time," she sang, relaxing into his slow rhythm of kisses. "That whole mess on Tatooine back when I was training with Obi-Wan counts, you know."
"Okay, you win," he murmured, and she smiled. A moment later, she puckered her lips for a kiss, which he obligingly gave her.
Sorry, Saw, he thought, but we are definitely going to be late for the briefing.
*Ahsoka and Lux have finally put aside their differences, and are now enjoying little moments of peace and quiet. But will their newfound tranquility be shattered? What do the Imperial forces have in store for our heroes and their allies? And now, with Maul dead, what has become of his sinister apprentice, Shima? You'll find out in the next thrilling chapter of The Unchronicled Adventures Of Ahsoka Tano!
Hello all! I don't know if you've noticed, but their are a LOT of spoilers for the next book in this chapter. And in case you didn't know, Dominic Raynor was the guy that Lando Calrissian won his facility on Bespin from. Something interesting: how many of you caught that line as a variation on a banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan from ROtS? I gave you all a hint by writing Obi-Wan's name!
Also, notice how I got Lothal involved... It's going to be playing a relatively major role in the next book... Did I say that out loud? Kriff...
Well, I'll be going now. I'll get started on the next chapter as soon as I can. Bye!
Marry the love of your life despite it breaking the oath of detachment in the Jedi Code and may the Force be with you,
Sharron
