AHSOKA TANO
Ahsoka awoke from her sort of trance to find herself being transferred from a small medical stretcher to a bed in the medical ward. She wondered how the Rebel Troopers, Lux and the Jedi had managed to get her here while she was out. It couldn't have been that long...
But the pain was back. Now, her baby was lending its strength to help her give birth, and not helping to lessen the pain. At least, on the bright side, she had a reserve of energy that she could tap into.
She bit back a shriek of pain as a fresh wave of contractions hit. Amni hurried about, yelling at her Padawan, Jinoyar Arcani, to get a certain tool or painkillers. When had he arrived?
She assumed that Amni must have send for him a few days ago, probably just before the battle. And even with a fast ship, it was quite a distance to travel from Cialone, an Outer Rim world, to the Japrael system, located in the Inner Rim...
Ahsoka could tell that her baby didn't like the atmosphere. MAMA, her child said to her through images and feelings. I am afraid. I do not like this. I do not want to see you suffer. I feel fear.
I know, she whispered back. Don't worry. It will all be over soon.
She screamed again as another contraction hit, sweat dripping down her face. She looked around the room, trying to find Lux, but he was nowhere. Her breathing sped up even more than it had before, partially from the pain, and partially from panic. She needed Lux; she needed her husband...
As if on cue, he ran back into the room. "Okay, we've got good news and bad news," he said, coming to sit down beside her. As the contraction subsided, she managed a frail smile. He put a comforting hand against her cheek.
"What's the good news?" Amni asked, tapping at a wicked-looking needle filled with blue liquid.
"The good news is that the rest of the Rebel forces have arrived. I heard somewhere that it was something of Janira's doing that they got here so quickly," he said, a look of pride for his twin sister coming to his face.
"A... And the bad?" Ahsoka whispered, trying to sit up a little to better see him. She was beginning to feel the pain starting up again.
He sighed. "We've got company. Of the Imperial sort."
Ahsoka fell back on her pillow. So it was true – they were coming.
But then, her gaze drifted upwards. Absentmindedly, she studied the ceiling. Strangely enough, it was made of plaster. She had been inside only a few buildings that actually had plaster ceilings – it was a material very rarely used in modern constructions. There were angular designs in colorful paint running a perimeter around it. And there was something oddly familiar about it...
And suddenly, coinciding with another contraction, she realized where she had seen that ceiling before. In that recurring dream she had experienced during the first few months of her pregnancy! The one where Lux had gotten shot!
"Rihaya trohiba," she whispered, her words quickly followed by a hoarse groan of pain. She gasped as she remembered something else from the dream: there had been blaster shots in the distance during her vision! It must have been from the Imperial forces!
Her dream was unfolding before her very eyes!
Ahsoka reached out and grabbed onto Lux's sleeve. "Lux," she muttered, stifling yet another cry of pain.
"It's okay, sweetheart. I'm here. You're doing great." He traced the teal-blue markings on her lekku gently.
She shook her head wildly. "No... No, Lux, you don't understand! I had a dream about this, and you – you got shot in the chest, and–"
"Ahsoka," he said, gently but firmly. "Trust me, I'm going to be fine."
There was a faint explosion, which rocked the room ever so slightly. Not a moment later, her husband's comlink rang.
"General Bonteri," came a voice from the other end of the call. It was probably one of the Onderonian foot soldiers.
"Bonteri here," Lux said. "What's going on?"
"Sir, they've broken through! There are Storm Troopers in the courtyard outside, and they have weapons we've never seen before! General Tandin is injured. We need you!"
Lux shot a look at Ahsoka, biting his lip. His conscience was apparently waging a war to determine which was more important: to stay with her, or to go assist his brothers and sisters of Onderon fight off the Imperial forces.
She nodded, and he hit the button. "Okay. I'll be there shortly."
Ahsoka cried out again, her teeth clenched. She looked into her true love's eyes, trying to keep her breathing steady enough to say a few words. "I love you... And be careful, I– ugh!"
"I love you too. And I'll be back soon."
And then, pressing his soft lips to hers quickly, he ran from the room.
*Ahsoka's dream is coming true. But what could this mean for Lux, and for whoever the mysterious figure who shot him in her vision? And just what does Shima have planned for our heroes? And better yet: will Ahsoka and her baby survive the actual birth?
