We Could Have Had It All

Anakia's P.O.V.

"It's Kylo Ren." Poe announces as he uses binoculars. "Luke's facing him alone."

"We should help him."

Finn instantly blurts out and glances at me. He's content to see me as I am with him, no matter how we ended up crossing paths again. We both can tell a change to one another; he's stronger with the force now and I'm have clearer judgment. 

"No, wait. Wait." 

Poe argues quickly while watching what is happening through the crack in the front gate. He holds back Finn, and he stills his movements in confusion. Scanning what's outside, I watch Ben and Luke activate their light sabers. 

They get into positions I've seen so many times over the years. Watching them in worry, I brush my saber on my hip. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Poe nod to himself while pointing at the two outside the base.

"He's doing this for a reason. He's stalling so we can escape."

"Escape?" 

Finn repeats, confused while reading between Poe and I. My eyes go from what's happening outside to the boys knowing Luke wants me to leave with the resistance. 

"He's one man against an army." Finn nods, agreeing with me while taking out his light saber. "We have to help him. We have to fight."

"No, no." Poe insists frantically while closing his eyes and thinking hard. "We are the spark that'll light the fire that'll burn the First Order down." Opening his eyes, Poe faces me and claims with full confidence. 

"Skywalker's doing this so we can survive." Spinning, he scans the hangar and all the caves entrances. "There's gotta be a way out of this mine." Waving to me, he blurts out while walking away from the gap in the front gate. "Hell, how did you two get in here?"

"We went through small cracks, Dameron." I answer with little hoping from knowing why he's asking. "You won't have enough time for everyone to make it through."

"Sir, it is possible that a natural, unmapped opening exists." C-3PO informs Poe while lifting his arm as if he's answering a class question. "... But this facility is such a maze of endless tunnels that the odds of finding an exit are 15,428-"

"Shh. Shush. Hush." Poe murmur to him and I can tell the wheels in his mind are working in overdrive. "Shush up. Shut up!"

"-To one."

"Listen."

Poe whispers and what's left of the Resistance searches the room for any sound. Glancing around, I realize Snips is nowhere to be found. I haven't seen her since the first blast from an AT-AT shot at Luke. 

It doesn't take me a second longer to notice all the other animals on Base are gone as well. Every animal on this base has disappeared.

"Where'd the crystal critters go?"

Finn questions as we all search around us. I glance at him and I recognize everyone has the same thought. I look to every cave in the hangar for any sign of life. 

When I glance to a cave in the far right corner, I find Snips playing with a crystal fox. As if she senses me watching her, Snip turns to face me with a toothy smile before calling out to me. 

We all glance around another with crooked smiles just before we watch the fox go further into the cave and Snip sprinting after it. Nodding with hope, Finn views to the rest of the Resistance and announces.

"Follow me."

As Finn walks toward the cave the fox and Snips race off into, the rest of the Resistance turns to glance at Leia. Frowning, she peers around before waving to Finn quickly.
