Poe's P.O.V.
"No... No! No, Ben! Please! Don't!"
Stirring awake, I hear a voice in the other room. Rubbing my eyes open, I glance around in the darkness. The sun hasn't risen yet and the two moons are still in the night sky.
"Ben, I'm sorry! Don't trust- Ben!"
The voice cries out and I instantly realize its Ani. Sitting up in my bed, I continue to hear her shout from her room. Jumping out of bed, my heart pounds, thinking it's another mental attack.
Ahsoka has warned me if her attacks last long enough it she could stop breathing and die. We've all checked on her regularly when she was on the medical bed but haven't since she's been able to stay awake throughout the day. I open my bedroom door and rush to her room without a thought.
As I push her door open, I find Anakia in her bed, shaking and shouting. The moment I step into her room, she springs into a sitting position, screaming. Coming closer to her, I watch her eyes open and darting her eyes around the room.
She's breathing heavily while her screams die down to a pant. When her eyes see me coming toward her, she pushes her hair out of her hair to get a better view of her surroundings. Darting her eyes from me to things in her room, she breathes out jittery.
"Sorry... I'm sorry. It was just a dream. Go back to bed."
"It's okay, I get them too."
I sigh and relax my shoulders as I watch her breath steady. Nodding to her, I turn around to go back to my room. When I reach her bedroom door, I hear Ani speak up in an embarrassed tone.
"Poe..." I glance behind me at her and find her staring at me with her bottom lip between her teeth. "Would... Would you stay with me? Just for tonight?"
"Y-Yeah, sure."
I slowly nod in surprise while moving back into her room. I don't know how, but Anakia keeps shocking me against all odds. She's acting one way, strong and independent, and then in an hour she changes to vulnerable and fragile.
Coming to one side of her bed, I watch her move to one side to give me some room. Sliding under the covers beside her, I try to relax myself. Out of the corner of my eye, I see her close her eyes again and rest a hand on my arm.
She holds my arm as if I'll disappear in the middle of the night. Sighing, I close my eyes, yet don't feel the need to sleep anymore. I feel like I'm sleeping next to a rare individual or someone of royalty.
Maybe that's why I said yes without hesitation. How can you say no to someone who seems like royalty or extraordinary? It's only now, laying beside Anakia, I realize she's become a legend like Luke Skywalker.
My eyes open at the thought and I glance down at her sleeping form. It's never accrued to me she's a legend, but peering at her, I'm sure of it. It all makes sense now; why I stayed behind for her, why Leia let her do as she pleases, why Luke called for only her.
Darting my eyes to the ceiling, I think of how the resistance has treated Anakia since meeting her. They weren't sure how to treat her or if she was even on our side. Yet, I've watched everyone in the resistance act like she's untouchable.
Somehow along the way, people such as myself have forgotten Anakia's just a young girl calling for shelter. It's in moments like these that bring me back to reality. Ani gets scarred, just like the rest of us.
