TRAINS AND PEOPLE crowded the place, many, even thousands of parents saying their farewells and hugs to their children as they were about to board a train away from them. The Pevensies weren't the exception.
Helen huddled all her children together and placed the last of the tickets into Lucy, who held onto her stuffed animal tightly.
"You need to keep this on, darling. All right?" Helen told Lucy, who nodded. "You warm enough? Good girl."
Lucy held back tears and placed her head against Diana's waist, stuffing her petite face into her oldest sister's coat. Diana didn't push her away or anything, she just caressed her fingers against her hair.
"If Dad we're here, he wouldn't make us go," Edmund blurted out.
"If Dad were here, it'd mean the war was over. We wouldn't have to go," Peter replied.
Diana nudged Peter's side with her elbow in a way to stop him from being rude, but Peter only looked at her with a raised eyebrow as if he didn't understand the reason behind it.
"You will listen to your brother, won't you, Edmund?" Helen asked as she stood up from her kneeling position.
Diana tried not to sigh in disappointment, seeing the way Peter glowed with pride since he was in charge. She was the oldest of the five, but she still was moved away to the side to let Peter be the leader.
Helen tried to place a kiss into her son's cheek, but Edmund only shrugged away. The mother hid her hurt expression and placed a kiss on his hair instead before moving onto Peter.
Peter weakly smiled and wrapped his arms around his mother and whispered something in his ear that the others didn't quite catch.
"All aboard! All aboard!" a man from the train yelled.
Helen turned to Diana and hugged her tightly, and Diana tried the hardest she could to stop her tears from falling, she needed to be strong for her siblings.
"You'll look after them, I know you will," Helen murmured.
"I promise," Diana mumbled.
Helen pulled away and moved over to Susan, who's cheeks were already wet from her falling tears. Susan sniffed in her mother's shoulder.
Once she said her farewells to all of her children, she looked at them and said, "All right. Off you go."
