THE MORNING STRUCK in the island pretty quickly, and all Diana, Lucy and Eustace could do was let themselves getting dragged by the slave traders with the shackles still being around their wrists. Diana had it worse, since the traders had her gagged in order to not utter another spell to free herself from the chains.
Diana had her knees placed on her chest with Lucy and Eustace on her sides, all sitting on the dirt with the rest of the prisoners. The heat from the sun was growing with every passing hour, and Diana had to squint her eyes every time the sun shined directly on her face.
They all heard and watched how a woman desperately screamed and shouted for her family as she was carried away in a wagon with more people inside, the poor woman extendí my a hand with the slightest hint of hope that her husband might take her away.
"Mummy!" the innocent girl cried out as she ran behind her father.
"Please!" the woman pleaded, her hand miraculously grabbing onto her husband's, who punched the men guarding the wagon away.
"Mummy!"
"Get back!" one of the pirates hissed and punched the man directly in the face, making him fall back into the ground with a grunt.
"No!"
"Mummy!"
"Stay with Daddy!"
"Don't worry! I'll find you!" the man desperately called out for his wife as the wagon got pulled and took the woman away, along with the rest of the people inside it.
Diana saw how Lucy buried her head in her hands out of frustration and she tried her best to reassure her, but then remembered the gag placed on her mouth and sighed. The scene that had unfolded in front of her had sent a chill down her spine, not wanting to go through the same thing with her family.
After that, her, Lucy and Eustace were taken to stand in a wooden board as a crowd of men gathered around to yell out different amounts of money in an auction, the sense of disgust growing in Diana's gut when she saw that the man behind all of this was enjoying the scene, with sick grin on his face.
"Now, prepare yourselves for this lovely specimen," the man grabbed her by the shoulders and placed her in the center as if she was in display. All the men in the crowd seemed interested when they saw her.
"Not only is she a fine woman, but she has magic running through her veins," the man announced.
The men were deeply shocked by the revelation and this seemed to encourage them even further in placing their money on for Diana, who could only let out muffled noises of protest.
