THE FOUR AND Mr. Beaver ran the fastest they could back to the dam, all sweaty from running and cold from being outside for too long. Diana felt helpless, she couldn't help her brother and it was driving her insane. She hoped there will be a chance to save him.

"Hurry, Mother! They're after us!" Mr. Beaver exclaimed as he ran inside the dam.

"Oh, right then," Mrs. Beaver replied calmly and crawled away.

"What's she doing?" Peter frantically asked.

"Oh, you'll be thanking me later," Mrs. Beaver continued grabbing supplies from her cabinets. "It's a long journey and Beaver gets pretty cranky when he's hungry."

"I'm cranky now!" Mr. Beaver exclaimed.

Diana and Susan rushed over to help Mrs. Beaver with stashing the food, wanting to leave as soon as possible.

"Do you think we'll need jam?" Susan thought out loud.

"Only if the Witch serves toast." Peter replied sarcastically, making her glare at him.

A loud, barking noise came from outside, alerting everyone inside the home. Diana recognized that sound anywhere; it was wolves. She didn't know how many, but the loud noise of their paws told her that they were surrounded.

The growling got louder and it was followed by the scratching of their paws against the wood, trying to enter the home. Diana could feel her panic rising to her throat, but Mr. Beaver guided her and her siblings away into a secret tunnel.

It was narrow and Diana had to lower her head to fit in, but she didn't care about it as she let the beaver guide them away from the wolves.

"Badger and me dug this. Comes our right near his place," Mr. Beaver explained as they ran.

"You told me it led to your mum's!" Mrs. Beaver exclaimed.

A loud groan came from beside her and she turned to see Lucy stumble down onto the ground, falling to her knees with a loud noise.

"Lucy, be careful!" Diana scolded as she helped her up her feet.

The beavers gasped and turned around to face them when the growls from above got louder and closer.

"They're in the tunnel," Lucy whispered.

Peter's face paled and his grip on the torch got tighter, his knuckles turning white.
