LOUD EXPLOSIONS AND screams were the thing that awakened Diana from her sleep. It was already a stormy night, thunder booming in the distance, but when her mother busted into her room with a panicked look on her face, she knew there was something wrong.
Her mother, who's name was Helen, rushed her out of bed urgently and told Diana to get her younger sisters while she grabbed her brothers.
"Quickly, the shelter, now!" she had said.
Diana ran into Lucy's bedroom with a worried looking Susan beside her, and they opened the door to see the young girl covering her ears and whimpering out of fear.
"Lucy, come on!" Susan exclaimed.
Diana grabbed Lucy's hand and pulled her out of bed, the three sisters falling in line with their brothers and mom, who lead them over to the shelter outside of the house.
"Quickly!"
Lucy wailed and screamed as another explosion boomed even closer than before. Helen's urgent screams got louder as she opened the door of the shelter, Susan stepping in immediately.
"Wait! Dad!" Edmund, the youngest brother, stopped on his tracks and ran back to the house.
"Edmund!"
"Ed!"
"I'll get him!" Peter replied back, following his brother into the house.
"Peter, come back!" Helen panicked.
Diana walked inside the shelter along with Lucy and Susan, all three of them huddled in the floor in a way to reassure each other. Helen waited by the door as she rushed Peter and Edmund inside before she closed it.
Edmund fell to the ground while holding a photo frame in his hand, panting and coughing for air, but his brother didn't notice any of this and began yelling.
"Why can't you think of anyone but yourself! You're so selfish! You could've got us killed!"
"Stop it!" Helen said.
Diana looked over at Edmund, who looked at the broken frame in his hands, and walked over to him. She wrapped an arm around his figure as he caught his breath.
