WHEN DIANA WOKE the next morning, she found the spot where Peter and Lucy were laying empty, and her face immediately paled out of nervousness and worry. She didn't waste any more time in waking the rest of the group to alert them of the situation and crawled back into the deep forest to seek for any clues.
Lucy was spotted standing over a few feet away, crying out at two men in front of her, recognizing only one of them, which was Peter, Diana picked the edge of her dress and ran into the scene.
"Prince Caspian?" the familiar voice questioned.
"Yes? And who are you?" the other responded, a thick and different accent dripping from his voice.
"Peter!" Diana yelled out as she came into view with Susan and Edmund following behind.
Peter and the mysterious man beside him, who apparently was Prince Caspian, looked up at the sound of the voice and drifted their gaze back to each other.
Caspian, who held the silver sword in his hand, looked down at it and his eyebrows furrowed. "High King Peter?"
"I believe you called," Peter replied.
"Well, yes, but. . .I thought you'd be older," Caspian responded as his eyes flicked up and down.
"If you like, we could come back in a few years — "
"No, that's all right," Caspian interrupted. "You're just. . .you're not exactly what I expected."
His gaze was fixed on Diana as he said that, a faint of a smile on his features. Diana shifted uncomfortably on her feet, not daring to meet the prince's eyes. Susan and Lucy noticed this, since they elbowed her teasingly before someone else spoke up.
"Neither are you," Edmund said with his eyes fixed on the minotaur on the back.
"A common enemy unites even the oldest of foes," a badger spoke up from behind the trees.
"We have anxiously awaited your return, my liege," a mouse said as he came into view, a ring with a red feather being tied on his ear and a sword strapped on his tiny body. "Our hearts and swords are at your service."
"Oh, my gosh, he is so cute," Lucy whispered over to her sisters.
The mouse, having heard that comment, unsheathed the sword and pointed in the air threateningly. "Who said that?"
