WHEN NIGHT STRUCK, Diana and her sisters slept quietly and comfortably in the insides of their tent, all of them wrapped in the finest sheets as blankets and the softest silks for pillows, but it was all interrupted when a soft voice shook Diana awake.

"Diana! Susan!" Lucy whispered as she stared off towards the outside of the tent.

"Mmm?" Diana stirred from her sleep and opened her eyes as she tried to adjust to the dark, spotting how Lucy stood from her bed.

Susan sat from her bed too and both girls frowned when Lucy didn't reply, only grabbing her dagger and cordial. Diana grabbed her knife and cape as Susan did the same, following behind Lucy.

Without making any noise, the three girls crept through the side of the tent and listened carefully to the soft sound of leaves rustling, being able to faintly see Aslan's figure walking away from the camp.

The curiosity won the best of them, and they followed after the lion without trying to be seen, hiding behind the trees every time Aslan stopped in his tracks.

"Shouldn't you three be in bed?" Aslan suddenly asked, not even looking back.

Diana sighed and they all left their hiding spot from behind the tree, having looks of regret in their faces.

"We couldn't sleep," excused Lucy.

"Please, Aslan," Susan began. "Couldn't we come with you?"

"I would be glad of the company for a while," Aslan confessed. "Thank you."

Diana offered him a smile that didn't reach her eyes and walked towards the lion, softly caressing her hands through his golden brown fur as her sisters followed her actions as they all began walking away.

The walk was eerily silent and none of the girls dared to say a word, and Diana didn't even try to leave Aslan's side as they walked by the trees, feeling a wave of uncertainty inside herself.

Aslan stopped once again and turned over. "It is time. From here, I must go on alone."

"But Aslan. . ." Diana tried to protest.

"You have to trust me. For this must be done." Aslan continued on. "Thank you, Diana. Thank you, Susan. Thank you, Lucy. And farewell."

Aslan turned around and continued on in his path, not sparing the girls another glance as his golden brown figure disappeared from sight. Once she made sure that he was far away, Diana turned to Susan and Lucy, nodding her head in a way of telling them to follow her.
