Phoenix POV
I sighed, and checked the large clock at the front of the room. Class started at 10:00, it was 9:58 I tapped the end of my quill nervously as I looked around at the room. Hermione was next to me, frowning. Leo and Harry where behind us, talking about Quidditch, Leo was thinking of trying out. Ron was sitting with Neville. They were just talking awkwardly to each other.
The bell toll once. Twice. Three times. Four times. Five times. Six times. Seven time. Eight times. Nine-
“I’m not late!” a voice yelled as the doors slammed open. I looked over to see a young woman walking to the front of the room. She was the woman I saw at West’s. Now, in a long black robe over a plain white dress shirt and blue jeans, she looked even younger, barely old enough to be a teacher. Her red, worn high top sneakers made small slapping noises as she walked to the front of the room. She stood there, and took a breath. She looked at her watch.
“Ha, record time,” she smiled, raking her hair back. “Well…Hi,” she said, looking at the four rows of students. “I’m Waverly B-…Trinket. Waverly Trinket,” she said, seeming like she was trying to tell herself more than us.
“I’ll be your History of Magic teacher for the rest of the year, and unless Dumbledore realizes what a mistake it is to leave me in charge of thirty plus kids, until I got board,” she said in an American accent. She sighed again, and went behind the large desk and put her feet up on it as she looked at a long attendance list.
“Jeez some of you have odd names,” she laughed, throwing the list over her shoulder before getting up to lean on the desk. No one had spoken. “You all can talk, right?” she chuckled, smirking.
The class let out a signal ‘Yes.’ She smiled, and crossed her arms, like she was thinking. “Ok…Let’s have some fun on the first day, huh?” she asked, pulling out her wand and spinning it like a baton. Leo grinned behind me, and Hermione looked worried.
“It’s your first day back, so I’ll go easy on you…to start,” she said with a smile. She pulled her robe off, and tossed it over the black board carelessly before falling back into the desk chair. “903 BC, what happened?” she asked, the class was silent.
“Oh come on! You should have learned this first year!-Don’t make me get the class list and pick on you!” She said, a playful smile on her face. The class was still silent. “Fine then,” she said with a childish huff. She held out her hand, and the attendance list flew into her hand. She shut her eyes, and waved her hand around before pointing to a name.
“Neville Longbottom,” she called out. I whipped my head over to see Neville with a mortified look on his face. He slowly stood, his hands shaking on his desk. She looked at him, and tilted her head at him. “Do you know what happened in 903 BC?” she asked.
“It-” he stopped to clear his throat when his voice squeaked. “It-” he cleared his throat again. “It was when dragon heart-strings where first used as a-a wand core,” he managed to force out. Professor Trinket smiled, and nodded.
“Good,” she said simply, and then with a flick of her wand, a small, floating ball that looked like a bubble, with a small spout on one end appeared in front of Neville. “These, are your first assignment,” she said. He smiled a bit, hesitantly grabbing the ball out of the air.
