Phoenix POV

“Well…I should be going.” Harry sighed, getting up from the swing.

“Aw! Come on mate! What’s the worst thing that could happen if your late?”

“I’d be-Uh…grounded,” he said, shuffling his feet as he pushed his glasses up.

“Is that tape holding them?” I asked, smiling sadly at my best friend. He nodded, pushing them back up from thin face.

Last week, Dudley, Harry’s fat cousin had hit him so hard in the nose, his thin, wire glasses snapped. His…for lack of a better word, cruel aunt and uncle wouldn’t get him a new pair, so, I taped them in class the next day. He was teased mercilessly anyways, just like me and Leo, but it was even worse now.

Leo hit a kid in the face when he wouldn’t let up. He got two weeks of in school suspension, but, like always when he walked into the detention room, he stopped at the door, looked right at the teacher, and said ‘It was worth it, and I’d do it again.’

“Well, we don’t want that,” Leo admitted, slapping Harry’s back lightly. “We better get home to Phee.” He tacked on. I rolled my eyes, and stood.

We all walked from the park to the edge of Privet Drive, and we continued five streets over to Pleasant Street.

“Why are all the street names like that?” Leo asked as we past the sign. “It’s like they expect us to act the way our street is named.” He grumbled, sticking his hands in his pockets as walked to our house, Number 23.

“No. No, I simply won’t have it! They are normal children!” I heard mum hiss at a man. She had two crumpled letters in her hands, and was glaring at a man, who I must say, was the oddest man I’d ever seen.

He had on a velvet three piece suite, in a dark, dark blue. It had thin, gold pin stripes, and matched the pocket watch chain he had going from his vest button to his pocket, and the shiny buttons with what looked like a crest with a lion on it stamped into it.

His dress shirt was a bright, electric blue, and was buttoned up to his throat, and had a gold tie that looked about two sizes to big on, with an insignia that looked like a coat of arms.

“Well, why not ask them?” he asked, with an American accent. How odd, you never hear those around here. Everyone’s British. Leo moved the slightest to stand in front of me . He always did this with ner people.

“They are children! Hey don’t know what they want!” She snapped at him.

“Oi! We’re plenty smart to decide if we want to go…Where do you not want us to go?” Leo asked, suddenly grabbing my hand.

“To Hogwarts,” He said simply, grabbing the two crumpled letters away from our mum. He handed me one, and Leo the other. Mine, in fancy, green script said ‘Mr. L. Adams, The first bedroom on the right, 23 Pleasant Street, Little Whinging, Surry”

“Oops,” He said simply, grabbing my letter and Leo’s, then crossing his arms to hand me the letter he had, and me the letter Leo had. This one said ‘Miss P. Adams, The second bedroom on the right, 23 Pleasant Street, Little Whinging, Surry.’

“How do you know where I sleep?” Leo asked, looking up at the man. His had the same, golden/pale blonde hair I did, but he had Leo’s dark blue eyes. Well, rather we had his…?

“Magic,” he said, a twinkle in his eyes. He knelt down so he was looking at us at eye level. “Tell me, Phoenix, Leo, do you want to learn magic?”

“Like, card tricks?” Leo asked, looking at the man. I was looking at my letter, I tore it open, and read it quickly.

“Phoenix! Give me that-”

“I want to go.” I said at a normal volume. My mother stopped, and looked at me.

“What?” she asked, her black eyes grew cold.

“I want to go. We don’t fit in here anyways, why not go and…And learn m-magic. And-And we can both go.” I said, looking at Leo whop was reading his own shoulder.

“No. No, I won’t have it,” she snapped, taking both Leo’s and my shoulder roughly and pulling us into our house. The man grabbed her upper arm, and his face grew protective and dark.

“Don’t you lay a hand on them,” he said slowly. Mum threw our arms back and dropped us. I fell back on my butt, and Leo pulled me up, glaring at our mum. She was shaking as she grabbed out shoulders roughly, pulling us towards the door.

“Leo, take your sister upstairs,” our do mum said slowly, ordering us. He stood perfectly still, unphased by the harsh manner of mum’s words. “I am your mother, and you will do as I say-”

“You are nothing compared to their mother. Now let them go,” the man ordered, he leaned close to mum’s face, and I saw his right hand twitching to his pocket. I looked back at my letter, then to Mum again.

“Fine. You’ve made your choice.” She said stiffly, looking at me and Leo. “Now get your things out of my house.” She said, turning on a heel, and slamming the door.

We all just stood there. I brushed my pants off, and looked up at Leo. He put an arm aroud me in a brotherly way. “I’ll get your things. You don’t have to go back in.” he said slowly, smieling comfortingly to me.

“Neither of you have to go back in that…” The man paused, gritting his teeth as he glared at the house. He took a breath, and bent down to both of us.

“What do we call you?” Leo asked confidently, I saw said him eyeing the man’s dark blue eyes that where the same color as his.

“Uh…Erm…Call me West, everyone does.” He said happily, jumping back to his feet. He poped his top hat back on his head, and pulled something from his pocket. “You two, are going to get your first taste of magic,” he smiled. He waved the stick, and there where two ear splitting craches. I saw the two windows on the upstairs of our house shatter, and our suitcases flew out, along with my back pack and Leo’s.

“Wow,” I breathed, smiling.

“That. Was. BLOODY AMAZING!” Leo said, jumping up to get his back pack, and pulled his suitcase behind him. “Can-Will me and Phee be able to do that?” He asked eagerly.

“Of course!” he said, like we were small children asking if we could have more food at dinner. An obvious answer to an obvious question.

Leo sighed, and mussed my curls. “This day just got better Phee,” he smiled, I was grinning ear to ear as I walked with West and my brother.

For the first time in…Ever, I guess, I felt like I was in the right place, at the right time.
