Phoenix POV

Earlier That Day…

“I’ll be back later,” Harry sighed, getting up. I shrugged, not looking up from the board, where Harry had beaten me at Wizards Chess.

I got board, just sitting in the common room. I grabbed a thick gray jumper, and pulled it over my blue blouse, leaving the buttons undone as I walked out of the cozy red and gold room. My shoes echoed on the stone floor as I walked to the library. I stopped in a mirror to fix the clip that held the sides of my hair back, and jumped when I heard a voice.

“What are you doing here?” my silver clip clattered to the ground as u spun around to see Draco Malfoy leaning on the wall from a separate corridor. I bent down and got my clip, ignoring him.

“Answer me mud-blood,” he snapped as I clipped my curls back. “What are you doing here?”

“I do go to this school too, despite what your father tried last year,” I said calmly, fixing a stray curl around my face, watching him in the mirror before walking towards the library again.

“You had it comin’”” Malfoy snapped, I heard his expensive shoes smack the floor as he followed me. I laughed at ‘commin’ coming from his mouth. Rich, pure-bloods rarely used language like that. “Thinking you where in the same league as us!” he said, finishing his thought.

“Please,” I sighed, spinning on a heel, my annoyed bubbling up as confidence. It felt…different. “I know I’m not in the same league as you.” I said, he several feet away from me. “I’m better.” I said simply, a content smile on my face.

“I thought you would have known that by now…I’m just better than you…” I said, trailing off as I walked away. I heard a bang, and whirled around, I saw a Malfoy with his wand drawn and pointed at me.

“Take it back.” He snarled, his cold gray eyes where hard as the glared at me. I quickly pulled out my own wand, holding it at my side.

“No.” I said firmly.

“I said, take. It. Back.” He growled again, taking a step closer.

“No.” I said again, waiting until he was about to say a spell before I did anything. I was actually good at dueling. Last year me and Leo joined Lockheart’s dueling club with Harry and Ron. I beat them both, well, I beat Ron. Harry gave up because he was hungry, and Snape had to stop me and Leo because neither of us could get an upper hand. I guess we where just that good.
