Sophie's hand started to shake. She felt as if her heart inside her chest was about to explode. She didn't know what to say nor how to react. No, no, no. That can't be real, she kept on telling herself, but with every denial she was more and more convinced that it was actually happening. It all made sense now.
You'll enjoy killing . That's what her grandma told her one day. Did she know about their family's heritage? If yes - why did she keep it for herself? In this world you're either a hunter or a prey. Make sure you'll be the first one. All of those advices... they made perfect sense now.
This whole anger that she had felt towards Levi... it made sense now. She was really going to kill him if he didn't stop her, if she didn't drug herself. Her whole obsession with Levi... was it purely out of love? Or was it...? Did she... did she want to be around him and have him this much because of her genes? Was it possible?
The book of noble families almost burned her hands. She was desperate to read more of Grisha's notes about them. She needed answers. It was the only thing that could save her. The desire to search every single page of it to find more information and hopefully denial of her suspicions was driving her crazy.
"Levi, Sophie did you find anything?" Hange's voice snapped her back to reality. She realised that Levi was standing behind her. Her whole body became stiff and her heart pounded even harder. She felt close to fainting due to the overwhelming emotions that were running through her head. "Guys, I'm talking to you," Hange said after an entire minute of staring at the two of them waiting for a response. They didn't even say a word. They felt as if all the words disappeared from their vocabulary. None of them dared to take the responsibility of revealing this book. Yet they both knew that it had to be done sooner or later.
Levi wanted Sophie to be the one to give the book to Hange. The information written there was definitely harder to swallow for her than him. Was he shocked about all of this? Damn right he was. His jaw tensed, his teeth gritted and his fists clenched. It was... a lot to take. It felt like yesterday when he worried about Kenny killing Sophie's parents and now this happened. He thought that Kenny killed her family because of some stupid argument or Underground rivalry, but now thinking of this he should've expected the story behind this to be bigger.
She's a Leitz.
Not sure how she didn't kill you yet and your little soldiers.
Your girl is gonna chase me anyway.
It was all there. Kenny gave Levi the information on the silver platter, but Levi didn't pick up on it. Damn fool. He should've figured this out, added things up. But he didn't want to, did he? Even now he would gladly ignore that information, turn back time and throw that damned book away so they wouldn't know it. They would live their life peacefully and happily together, not worrying about their families' history. They were their own family. They agreed on that days ago. But this... this was bigger. Kenny killing her parents wasn't just an exception. It wasn't an accident. It was a pattern. Apparently it had run for generations. How were they supposed to ignore that?! Was it even possible? He definitely wanted it to be.
"I... it's a book about noble families," Sophie mumbled after a while. She had no other choice than to tell that to Hange. She already saw a book in her hands. There was no way that she could hide it from her and study it at the comfort of her room. No, it was actually the room that she shared with Levi. She cringed at the thought of it, feeling a sudden urge to vomit. She was disgusted with herself. With her hands. With her mind. Her blood. Her genes. Her name. How was she supposed to look at herself in the mirror now?!
