It was a dull day, really. At least for the members of the 104th training corps that were now carefully watched by Mike's squad and Sophie. It was a seemingly easy job, but they knew it could get hard at any moment. If only one of the newbies decided to turn into a titan, thus they were sitting fully equipped on the contrary to the 104th who were forced to sit in civilian clothes.
"If any of them were about to change they would do it already," Nanaba said, scratching her head. She seemed to be as bored as the rookies.
"You're probably right. That's good. Erwin's suspicion seems to be right," Mike replied.
Sophie merely nodded her head in response. She wasn't as bored as they were. She wasn't as happy as they were. Her thoughts were drifting away to the Stohess where the rest of them were trying to capture Annie Leonhardt. If Sophie had an easy, peaceful day with the 104th it meant that Annie was really the female titan. It meant that Levi was somewhere there, probably fighting her knowing him. She believed that he would be alright, but it didn't mean she wasn't worried. She saw what the female titan was capable of. She didn't want Levi to get close to that monster. If only she could switch places with him and let him take that boring assignment instead of her.
Those titans aren't your enemy. They can't stand a chance against you, she almost cringed hearing that fucking voice again and shook her head. She was hearing it more often now and she didn't know what to do about it. Was she hallucinating from the amount of drugs that she was taking? It was possible. It was the only reasonable explanation actually.
"Soph!" Nanaba called for her, causing her to snap back to reality. "Is everything okay? You seemed...absent," Nanaba narrowed her eyebrows.
"It's nothing," she mumbled and averted her eyes.
"Leave her alone, Nanaba. Can't you see she's worried?" Mike said.
"Why? It's peaceful here and...oh," she stopped talking when she saw Mike's are-you-fucking-serious face, immediately realising what was troubling Sophie's mind. Well, it was troubling her partially, but how could anyone know about the irritating sound inside of her head that was demanding attention? "Sorry," she just mumbled and headed towards the rookies.
"She's a great soldier," Mike said, almost defending her when he got left with Sophie. "Oblivious to emotions, though," he smirked and Sophie smirked back. They both needed a laugh. She wasn't the only person who had the people she loved in the Stohess after all. Mike had a fair amount of friends there himself. He prayed for them to be alright, just as Sophie prayed for Levi's safety.
"You seem to be unhappy about it," she poked him playfully and he rolled his eyes which caused her to chuckle. She knew when she saw a man charmed by a woman. Nanaba clearly left a great impression on Mike as she never had seen him looking at anyone like this. She wanted to continue their little banter, but she wasn't gifted with the opportunity for that.
"Titans were spotted in the south part of Rose!" Gelgar, one of Mike's subordinates, ran inside, gasping a little.
"What?!" Both Mike and Sophie were startled. "Did the colossal titan appear again? Did they breach the wall?" Mike wondered out loud.
"We don't have time to think about it. We need to evacuate people from the villages," Sophie reminded him, surprising herself. Usually she was the one that had to be reminded of what had to be done as she was often confused by the events. Right now she was the calm one, ready to take care of the problem.
"Right," he quickly agreed, coming back to his senses from the initial shock. "Rookies won't have time to change into their uniform and take equipment," he pointed out, sighing.
