Erwin was sitting in his room, heavily guarded by Military Police's members. He had almost no visitors during his time spent in the capital. All of them had to be approved by the MPs or government itself. Luckily, they didn't expect him to plot with Dot Pixis. They didn't think he would be this bold. Huge mistake from their side, but big opportunity for Erwin, Scouts and the whole humanity behind the Walls.

He was getting impatient, even though the great pro of being there was the ability of planning things without interruption. Alas, it was terribly boring. He missed action and he missed knowing what was going on exactly just as much. He couldn't control the moves that his unit was making now, or rather moves that were making those of them who avoided being caught by the government. There were only a few of these lucky people who had a responsible task to do. Hange, Moblit, Farrah, Levi, Sophie, Mikasa, Jean, Armin, Sasha, Connie, it's all in your hands, he kept on telling himself.

"Is it just me or did you really get more handsome while in prison?" Marie asked, catching his attention. It was the first time in days that he reacted to the MP stepping inside. He didn't expect to see her at all. The last time they had seen each other was during Eren's trial. They spent that night together, but it wasn't as pleasant and care-free like it used to be. No, they were fighting each other just after they finished. They were full of suspicions towards each other and none of them wanted to step back from their beliefs, making it difficult to talk. Now she was standing at his door again and he kept on wondering why she decided to see him.

"I'm not in prison, it's just a normal room that a guest would get," he said politely and she smirked.

"Guests would be allowed to leave whenever they want. I bet you can't tell that about yourself, can you?"

"Why did you come?" He changed the subject. She sent him a weird smile, one of those that he couldn't read. It was frustrating. He was usually very good with people and she was the only exception. Even after years he couldn't be sure what was exactly on her mind.

"To convince you to give us Eren Yeager," she explained and sat in front of him. Her eyes went down to the empty space in his sleeve and she sent him a sad look. She was worried that it was inappropriate, but Erwin didn't care about that at the moment. He got used to people looking at his arm like this, with pity in their eyes. It was making them less careful around him, thinking that he was vulnerable and weak now, which was as far from the truth as possible.

"You know me too well to actually think that you can do it," he replied. She chuckled quietly and nodded. She was soft that day. Which gave him the idea of why she was there. "They're going to execute me soon, aren't they?"

His question caught her off guard. She didn't know how to react. She knew that Erwin could be very straight-forward if he wanted to, but she didn't believe that he was going to cut his teasing and talk about it as if it wasn't a big deal. For her whole ride to Erwin she wondered how to deliver him such news and thus she was getting nervous. And he guessed it right away? Now she had to drop her mask off. Mask that helped her keep it together and not burst in tears as this man was dear to her heart, even though she kept on avoiding him for years, only allowing herself to spend the night with him from time to time.

She nodded as she bit her lip. No tears left her eyes, but it was alright for Erwin. He could see how tormented she was even without liquid streaming down her face. "I wanted to see you before it's going to happen," she confirmed.

"Do you really think I'm going to die?" He asked and she looked at him with a question in her eyes.

"What?"

"Did you speak with Nile?" he asked another question, puzzling her even more. She didn't know what to say. Rare thing to happen.

"I don't want to talk about Nile now" she averted her eyes and he rolled his own.
