AN: The Burgess family and doctor Nathalie Burgess are a part of koulakoukoula's fanfiction: Broken Hearts, Severed Limbs. We created a multiverse so some of our original characters show up in each other's stories!
________________________________________________________________________________Their first night at the Hizuru's embassy wasn't great for Levi and Sophie as they spent it debating whether to expose her Leitz identity or not. They had the once in a lifetime opportunity to talk with someone that had helped to create her family. Heck , someone who had helped create both of their families. The Burgesses could be the answer for all of their problems. Alas, they didn't know if they were trustworthy.
"We shouldn't bring your family's name without consulting it with Erwin first," Levi said at some point. It was late after midnight and he was walking back and forth in their room. A single room that looked like a palace. A room in which they were supposed to sleep now, and get some rest before engaging in tasks that will be assigned for them. Instead, they were completely awake. It was impossible to fall asleep with everything that was happening.
"It's my name, not Erwin's," Sophie scoffed, crossing her arms against her chest as she looked at Levi. He could read how angry she was even in the darkness. "Besides, since when do you trust him enough with our problems?"
"Since we're on enemy territory," he grunted in response and flicked his hair to the back in a hectic gesture. He was getting more nervous by the hour, his mind producing scenario after scenario and every single one ended terribly. "Maybe we don't entirely trust Erwin. But at least we know him. We don't know any of these people here, so how can we trust them even a bit?" He tried to reason with her and she bit her lip considering his words. She looked down and as he saw that, he kneeled in front of her, cupping her face. Making her worried was the second last thing he wanted right now. The last thing was exposing her to danger. "Look," he sighed, searching her eyes for any sign of negative emotions. He realised how sceptic she was - something he had to work on. "I just don't want us to do anything stupid,"
"So what you're trying to say is that I want to do something stupid?" She asked, huffing at him. He barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes. Sophie could be a pain in the ass when mad. A pain in the ass that he goddamn loved.
"Did you take your pill already?" He asked in return. He started getting an impression that her mood changes were caused by this - her system longing for drugs. She always got more tense in the evenings.
"No. Why?" She arched her eyebrow and looked at him with accusation hidden in her eyes.
"Then take one before we continue," he said, tapping his fingers nervously on her thighs. She didn't seem entirely on board with the idea as she clearly wanted to finish this conversation first, but she listened. She swallowed the pill and took a sip of water, looking at him with anticipation.
"Can we continue now?" She asked. "This pill is going to make me dizzy soon," she reminded him and he nodded. He urged her to lay on the bed and he laid next to her, rubbing her body gently just to help her fall asleep. At least one of them should get some rest before tomorrow.
"You're not doing anything stupid," he reassured her, continuing their conversation. "I just don't want us to..." he tried to find the right word that wouldn't upset her, but she did it for him.
"Make any mistake?" She suggested and he nodded. She started getting calmer, he could feel it by the way her body relaxed and she snuggled to him, forgetting about her pettiness. "Erwin would sell that information if it meant achieving his goal, whatever the fuck it really is," she sighed. Nothing could be certain with Erwin. He was telling them that he wanted to free Eldians, but after years spent in his unit, fighting shoulder to shoulder with him taught them that there was a chance for a hidden goal.
