76. Hidden in the shadows

Their hearts were pounding fast, fingers almost shaking as they were about to flip the page and show the next page of the report that would probably contain some interesting information that the title had promised. What was it going to be? They kept asking this themselves as their eyes wandered on the title.

Finally Levi opened the first report and just as he did, they heard a noise outside the room. The source of it was definitely in the same hallway as they were. They tensed and before anything happened Levi closed the book and shoved it into Sophie's hands who hid the book under her dress, placing it inside of her tights. It was uncomfortable, yet necessary as people stormed inside seconds after.

They were dressed the same, grey uniforms with badges on it that said that they were the security. Shit. There was no way that this place was for the visitors' eyes and Sophie and Levi clearly crossed the boundaries, ignoring the rules that they weren't even aware of. Why otherwise would the security chase after them? "What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here unless you have permission," one of the men said as he tried to grab Sophie. He tugged on her sleeve which caused Levi to frown and grit his teeth.

"Keep your fucking hands off her," he growled at the men, but they weren't scared of him. Why would they? For them he was only a short and not well-built, at least on a surface, man. Someone who wasn't dangerous. They were in Marley after all, no one in there knew who Levi was and now they had to face the greatest disadvantage of it.

"Someone's too bold. Let's search them," the other men said as he grabbed Levi and urged him to bend over the desk.

"Leave him alone," Sophie cried out, but the other man pushed her against the wall and started searching for her. He went down from her shoulders to her waist and was about to go lower when the door opened again, making everyone look at the people that entered the place. It turned out that it was Kiyomi, accompanied by the Scouts.

"Ah! Here you are! Gentlemen," she nodded at the confused security men. "These are my guests. They are foreigners, first time visiting Marley," she explained.

"Your guests trespassed here. No one's allowed here unless they have a permission on paper which your guests didn't show us," one of the men replied. As he said it Sophie felt how the report's cover started pressing against the material of her tights, ripping them. Her heartbeat sped up as she expected the piece of clothing to tear and thus let go of the report, allowing it to drop on the floor. They all would be damned if that happened. She started looking around the room nervously, desperately trying to find something suitable for a fight. Just in case.

"They did? Oh, they wanted to go to the toilet. I gave them the instruction, but it seems that they got lost anyway. But can you blame them? Your parliament is spacious, the biggest one I've seen so far and as the ambassador I travelled a lot," she said and tried to smile innocently. Erwin observed it with barely hidden admiration. That woman was pretty old and yet she could still warm people's hearts, men's especially.

"Well, it is a big place," one of the security members said, proudly pushing his chest to the front and smirking with an undoubtful sense of superiority that made all of the Scouts angry. These Marleyans were so vain, thinking they're better than everyone else, just making someone admit it was making them lose their alertness. "And we didn't find anything," he added, trying to reason with the one who was probably the boss.

"Alright," their boss said after a moment of thinking. "You can go, but I don't wanna see you in this part of the building again, got it?"

"Of course, I'm sorry for all the trouble gentlemen. Keep up your good work," Kiyomi smiled at them one more time and nodded at Sophie and Levi, encouraging them to join her side. They quickly left the room and as they left this wing of parliament Erwin grabbed the two of them, urging them to slow down and listen to him.
