"Are you okay, Miss Carter?"
Satu pulls me from my train of thoughts, and I smile at him. "I'm good."
His ears pull down. "I've heard stories about you."
"Oh?" I say, made myself composed about the rumors about me.
"Don't get offended, I mean," Satu's face turns red. "I heard from the wolves that you were obsessed with Alpha Dominic since you were kids, and you will do anything to keep him away from other possible suitresses. Then they said you left because he has found his mate."
I slapped my forehead and let out a groaning sigh. My reputation as the wolfless possessive villain has spread outside the werewolf community. Of course, it's a title I was given, and there is nothing to hide, but I want the gossiped about me to stop. It makes my ears itch every time people talk behind my back because of my past.
"That was all in the past," I told him as I glanced around more decorative paintings on the wall and exquisite art pieces. "Plus, I left the pack not because Alpha Dominic found his mate but because we aren't meant to be. I'm wolfless after all, so I moved on. I got nothing to do with Dominic anymore."
"May I ask you a curious question," Satu starts, hearing his nervous tone. "I know it isn't my business, and you have every right not to answer, but seeing how Alvin offended you, Alpha Dominic seems agitated about all the things said about you and attacked him. If you two are no longer intimate, why would he - an alpha who brought his future luna - defend you?"
That is a good question.
I know what Dominic did for me if what an older brother would do for his sister, but he became dangerous over something authentic - and he knows it.
Dominic went on psycho on Alvin that he wanted to kill him for insulting me in front of everyone and spilling out my bad reputation once I lived in the Blue Moon Pack. He didn't care about his position of alpha. What was going through his mind was murder instinct. Alvin should be thankful if I didn't step in, Dominic would lose his position and face the penalty.
I didn't want that to happen to him. I don't deserve to be defended, and I can fight my own battles. I was about to turn the fucker into a frog, but Dominic took the first punch. Well, I should be grateful; otherwise, I'll be the one who will face the penalty. So it's a win-win scenario.
"Dom - I mean, Alpha Dominic was only doing that because I'm regarded as his sister," I saw the shock in Satu's eyes, and I flashed an indulgent smile. "So, you can say he was defending me because we are family."
I hated the idea that I said Dominic and I are a family. But that is how it should be.
The beastman didn't question further. I get the sense he understands how complicated the relationship I had with Dominic is. I don't think he believes the alpha and I treat each other as siblings since he heard the stories about me and my reputation.
I sigh inwardly.
I need to erase that title.
As we draw near two large doors, different from all the other rooms, this is meant for one of the Elders.
Satu knocks on the door, lightly with his knuckles, and then announces our arrival, "My Queen, I've brought Miss Carter."
I was surprised instantly when the doors opened wide as a gust of fae magic spread through my face. My eyes grew wide as I entered a magical forest than a room. There were willow trees, vines hanging on the walls, birds, and butterflies flying around. Varies of flowers and live plants are grown on the floor. I see wood animals as well making themselves feel at home. It's like I traveled to Narnia, but instead of a wardrobe, it's a room. It's like I'm in Disneyland, though I have never been there.
