A/N I LOVE THE MEDIA UP ABOVE, PARTY BECAUSE I LOVE PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN AND PARTLY BECAUSE IT REALLY RELATES TO THIS CHARACTER. ANYWAYS ON WITH IT. Just don't ask why Rachel is at Camp before she's the oracle, just go along for the sake of the plot.

I wanted to hate her, gods did I want to. She had everything, long hair, bright eyes, beautiful features. She was smart, athletic, funny, kind, inspiring, she was just everything. She was Annabeth.

"Alright, so what we're gonna do today is practise our blocking," Annabeth instructed her class. I was watching her teach a group of 9 year old demigods, all from an assortment of cabins.

"But we practised that yesterday," a little girl with brown pigtails whined.

"I know, but some of you still need to master the skill, so up you get. Find a partner, and practise," She ordered.

"She's a really great teacher huh?" Percy's voice sounded from behind me.

"Hmmm? Oh, um yeah, she's pretty good," I replied, I always had trouble concentrating around Percy. I mean messy black hair, bright green eyes, and gods those muscles, I could see why Annabeth liked him, and that was also why I felt so guilty about liking him too.

"You know after Luke left, she's the one who taught me how to fight, she's kind of amazing in that field."
I felt a twinge of jealousy as I watched Percy stare at her in complete adoration. Why couldn't it be me he was calling amazing? Why couldn't it be me who had grown up with him? Become his best friend? Taught him how to fight? Why wasn't he falling for me?

"Yeah," I muttered. "Pretty amazing."

____TIME SKIP_____

That night I brought myself down to the training centre again, I couldn't sleep. I could hear the sounds of someone fighting inside, but from what I knew everybody was sleeping. I slowly opened the door to find a familiar blonde figure throwing knives against the targets with terrifying accuracy. I made my way to back out but she noticed me.

"I know you're there Rachel," Annabeth turned around, a knife still in her hand. I decided not to make any sudden movements I did not want to end up with one of those embedded in my sternum.

"So are super senses included on the list of freakish demigod abilities or is it just you with the spidy sense?" I tried to joke around and keep things light, Annabeth gave me a cold smile.

"I've been training since I was 7, your skills tend to improve after 8 years," she threw her last knife behind her without even looking, it ended up just a few centimetres shy of the red bullseye mark. I swallowed nervously.

"I can see," I nodded.

"Don't worry I'm not going to kill you," Annabeth rolled her eyes and walked over to the target retrieving her knives. As she came back she continued. "I'd have hell to pay if I did that, Percy would have my head."

"What?" I asked.

"Please," Annabeth scoffed. "Like I haven't noticed."

"Oh um, really he doesn't-" I stumbled over my words. We had never really talked it over but I had the feeling there was a mutual understanding of our... "Rivalry" for lack of a better word.

"Doesn't what?" She questioned. "Have a totally obvious crush on you? Doesn't notice my constant hints? I mean honestly I could I could paint 'I love you' across my forehead and he'd still never notice!" she had turned back to the target and was throwing her knives with even more aggression now, if possible.

I slowly walked up to her, making sure that she didn't suddenly turn around and shiskabob me. "Look Annabeth I'm sorry,"
And I really was, sure I was pretty new to Camp Half-Blood but everyone knew her back story, maybe not all the little details but I had the gist of it.

"Sorry for what?" She asked, she wasn't facing me, but her voice was quiet I had the feeling she was on the verge of tears.

"Everything," I replied. Her dad never really cared, her step mom had pushed her away (and it wasn't like demigods could turn to their godly parent for any support) she'd then had Luke and Thalia, both of whom had left her and now I was taking away the one person she had left.
"You- you have no one," I started slowly. "Your dad, Luke, Thalia... They all aren't there."

"Technically Thalia's back now," she shrugged. I had the feeling she was trying to hold it together.

"But she's with the hunters, how often do you see her?"
No response.
"I'm sorry, I-.... Percy is the only thing you have left, the only person you fully trust and here I am, a total stranger, butting in and ruining your relationship and I don't really think I realized till now how much you need him and I'm so so sorry," I blurted out the rest of my words in a rush. Annabeth was full on crying now, silent tears stained her cheeks, her eyes red.

"You don't know me," she whispered. "I don't need Percy, I can handle my issues on my own. After all I am just the friend, you're the pretty girl who the hero falls in love with and they live happily ever after, the end."

"No," I corrected her. "You are the friend, but you're the amazing, smart, funny, kind, beautiful and brave friend that Percy is totally head over heels for. You're the one he's going to end up with, you're the one he's in love with."

"I'm really not-"

"Yes you are," I cut her off. "Annabeth look, I know we kinda..... Got off on the wrong foot, but I respect you, a lot, and trust me when I say that I'd really like to get to know you better."

Annabeth wiped her tears away and smiled. "Well thank you, and I'd like to get to know you too, you seem like a nice person."

"I like to think so," I shrugged.

"So..... About Percy?" She asked.

"I'm over it," I shrugged.

"Really?"

"Yeah, blondes are more my thing actually,"
Annabeth gave me a small smile and I had the feeling that this was the start of a pretty great friendship.
