( July '93 )

It was July thirty-first which meant that it was Cassandra's thirteenth birthday. She looked out the window of Ginny's room. It was already past three in the afternoon and no note from her father. Cassandra didn't care about the presents on her birthday, all she wanted was for her father to send a card wishing her a happy birthday and telling her that he loved her.

Ginny had repeatedly come into the room just to see if Cassandra had moved since the last time she checked on the girl. Ginny was the best roommate anyone could ask for. She was kind and smart, and that's what Cassandra admired about her. Cassandra wished that Ginny would never change.

Cassandra's thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. She turned around and in the doorframe was standing Ron.

"You okay, Cas?" Ron asked, his face concerned.

"Yeah. I'm just waiting for a letter from my dad."

"Is there a specific reason that you're waiting on his letter?"

"Yes, today is my thirteenth birthday and I would've loved some recognition from my dad." Cassandra sighed.

"Wait, today's your birthday? We gotta celebrate!" Ron exclaimed. "Mum! Today is Cassie's birthday!"

"Ron, don't worry about it. Nobody cares anyway." Cassandra looked at her hands and red sparks flew from them. The spark was tiny but still caught the attention of Ron.

"Why are there red sparks coming from your hands?"

Cassandra put her hands into her jean pockets. She looked up at Ron, her eyes filled with tears.

"Don't worry, it's normal." Cassandra lied.

"I don't think that's normal, but okay." said Ron. "Do you want me to leave you alone?"

"Yes please."

As soon as Ron left, Cassandra pulled her legs closer to her chest. Two strands of her hair began to float over her head. She closed her eyes and concentrated on calming down. She took deep breaths and her hair fell back in place. She knew better. She knew to be more careful but at this moment she really didn't care.

She felt like she was spiraling out of control, again. She knew she couldn't let her emotions get the better of her but it was hard to fight back. Cassandra has never felt so worthless before in her life. It wasn't a new feeling, but it was deeper this time. She at least thought her dad would care about her birthday and send her a card just to let her know that he was thinking of her.

She took another deep breath. She wishes her mother Hayley was holding her right now. Hayley made everything better. Cassandra reached over to her makeshift nightstand and took out the picture of her mother. She studied her mother's smile and wondered if she had her smile.

Cassandra closed her eyes and fell asleep. Cassandra slipped under the covers and pulled them up to her chin. After a while, she fell asleep. Ron and Ginny checked on her multiple times an hour. They were worried about her.

Whenever Ron and Ginny would check back up on Cassandra, the rest of the Weasleys expected an update on how she was. Mrs. Weasley wanted to activate her mother instincts and take care of Cassandra, but Mr. Weasley reminded her that Cassandra wasn't their child and Mrs. Weasley should let Cassandra have space.

Fred and George had set up a surprise gift for Cassandra. They made it themselves in under three hours. Ron helped them figure out what to make for her since Ron talks to Cassandra the most. They made it out of old supplies in their bedroom.

Cassandra finally woke up around seven o'clock and went downstairs to the kitchen for a snack. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had been sitting down at the table drinking tea when Cassandra had come down.

"Oh Cassandra dear, would you like some green tea? It'll make you feel better." Mrs. Weasley asked.

"No thanks Mrs. Weasley," answered Cassandra.

"Happy birthday Cassie!" Mr. Weasley exclaimed.

"Oh thank you, Mr. Weasley," Cassandra said. She still wasn't in a good mood. She made a mental note to call this day, "birthday blues" because if her father forgot now then who's to say that he won't forget in the future.

Fred and George heard Cassandra talking to their parents so they had come down the stairs quietly to scare Cassandra. The twins creeped up behind Cassandra and put their arms around her suddenly.

"Gods! You scared the living shit out of me!" Cassandra exclaimed.

"Cassie, watch your language!" Fred said.

"Oh please fuck that language shit."

"Ginny will overhear and possibly say those words." George pointed out.

"Fine, I guess for Ginny I'll stop."

"Good." George said. "Now we have a present for you."

"I don't need any presents, guys. You don't have to spend your money on me. Not even my own father does. He uses my mom's money."

"Oh sorry, Cas, we didn't know. But we didn't buy anything for you, we made the present." Fred said. "May we present Cheerio 3000."

Fred took out a rubik's cube out of his pocket. It looked normal from the outside.

"And what's that supposed to be?" asked Cassandra, genuinely confused.

"It'll cheer you up whenever you're sad. If you press the red side, it'll let out a string of curse words if someone makes you upset." George explained. "If you press the blue side, it'll give you comfort words. If you press the yellow side, it'll give you words to boost your confidence. If you press the white side, it'll give you a piece of your favorite bubblegum. If you press the green side, it'll give you a hand shake. If you press the orange side, it'll give you a mini drink."

"Thank you so much guys! I can't believe you made this yourselves." Cassandra exclaimed.

"It's all for you Cassie. We wanted you to feel better about your dad not sending you a card, so we ended up creating this. We created it in under two hours. Surprising for us really." Fred said, a grin plastered across his face.

"Thank you so so much. You guys honestly don't know how much this means to me."

"You're like our little sister. So when our little sister needs cheering up, we're here. So let us know when you need cheering up." George said.

Cassandra gave them both a big hug and disappeared off to her room. Fred and George watched her leave with grins on their faces. They knew they succeeded at making her happy. All they wanted to do was to make people happy. They knew they were on this Earth for that purpose.
