( June '94 )
Cassandra awoke in the hospital wing. Harry was sitting awake next to her and Hermione stood near them, awaiting them.
"Sirius!" Cassandra whisper-yelled.
"I know!" Hermione said.
Professor Dumbledore walked into the hospital wing.
"You've got to stop them!" Hermione exclaimed, walking up to Dumbledore. Harry and Cassandra followed. "They've got the wrong man!"
"It's true, sir." Harry agreed. "Sirius is innocent."
"It's Scabbers who did it." Ron gave his input from his bed.
"Scabbers?" Dumbledore asked.
"Scabbers is Peter Pettigrew. He killed those muggles and led Voldemort to Lily and James." Cassandra explained shortly.
"We know the truth. Please believe us." Hermione begged.
"I do. But it will be very hard to convince the others." Dumbledore replied. "Mysterious thing, time. Powerful and when meddled with, dangerous. Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of a dark tower. You know the laws Miss Granger and Miss Snape. You must not be seen. You must return before this time. If not, the consequences are too ghastly to discuss. If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life can be saved. Three turns should do the trick."
Professor Dumbledore walked away.
"Oh and when in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a helpful thing." Dumbledore added before closing the doors to the hospital wing.
Hermione gave Cassandra a wink before getting out the time turner.
"What the bloody hell was that all about?" Ron asked.
"Sorry Ron, but seeing as you can't walk." Hermione said. She stood close to Harry and Cassandra. She put the time turner over the three of them, twisting three times. Harry went to help but Hermione slapped his hand.
Now they were in the hospital wing, many hours earlier.
"What just happened?" Harry asked.
"Time turner." Cassandra replied.
Cassandra and Hermione walked out the doors. It was 7:30. They were heading to Hagrid's at the time. Cassandra had to warn Harry again that they couldn't be spotted. They watched their past selves stand around and watched past Hermione punch Draco in the face again.
Cassandra had to stop herself from laughing. They went down to Hagrid's hut next. Hermione grabbed dead ferrets to feed Buckbeak. They waited for their past selves to run past before attempting to get Buckbeak out of there. Hermione hated the dead ferrets but it was the only way to get Buckbeak out of there.
They safely managed to get Buckbeak away before the executioner came out with Fudge. It was a close one but it was worth it. They were going to save two innocent lives and not just one.
~~
It was now dark outside. Harry and Cassandra held each other while Hermione took care of Buckbeak. Cassandra saw the dementors fly where Sirius was going to be at.
"Sirius! Come on!" Harry said.
They ran towards where the dementors were going. Cassandra's heart pounded in her chest. She knew she had been studying the patronus charm for months but doubted that she could do it in a time of desperate need.
They reached the lake where they saw their bodies hovering over Sirius's. Harry's soul was being sucked out while trying to help Sirius. Harry, Cassandra, and Hermione stood from afar and watched.
"Don't worry. My dad will come." Harry said. "He'll conjure the patronus."
"Harry, I don't think it was your dad." Cassandra replied. "There was a woman too. I think it was you and I."
"But I'm not ready." Harry said.
"I'm not either but I know we've got this." Cassandra assured.
The two stepped up after waiting for a little bit.
"Expecto Patronum!" They yelled.
A bright white light came from their wands. Cassandra saw a dragon and stag fly towards the dementors. She grabbed Harry's hand. She knew this would be tough but they did it. Sirius was going to be safe.
~~
Harry and Cassandra flew Buckbeak towards the tower where Sirius was being held. They stopped by, picking Sirius up, and flew to the Forbidden Forest.
"We want you to take Buckbeak and stay low. Stay somewhere safe." Cassandra said and Sirius nodded.
"How did you know all of that stuff?" Sirius asked. "Back in the Shrieking Shack?"
"Remus told me. I stayed with him for a while." Cassandra replied.
"I'm sorry." Sirius said. "I know you must miss your family."
"We both do." Harry spoke.
"The ones who love us never really leave us." Sirius said. "You can find them in here."
He pointed towards their hearts.
"You both have your mothers eyes." Sirius smiled. "I will talk to you soon."
Sirius mounted Buckbeak and flew off, leaving Harry and Cassandra behind.
