Gia sits herself down in her office chair with the smell of wood to be found everywhere around her. As the clock ticks, Antonio's footsteps reverberate in the whole building. In a matter of minute's, he's standing in front of her door.
Without a knock, does he let himself in. Gia looks through her eyebrows to see who the intruder is. Once she has placed an identity to the round face, she goes to greet him.
She loudly sighs as she sits down in her chair. "What are you doing here, zio?" She asks as she goes on to write the end of her sentence. He places his fedora on the table and puts one leg over the other after he sits down.
"I could ask you the same?" He responds to which she puts her pen down and straightens her back. "What is this about?" She questions. "We can't keep on asking questions until one answers." he tones loudly.
"What are you doing, Gia? You are smart, don't ruin your relationship with your family over a disagreement. Look how it worked out between your father and his brother. Your father got everything, and he got a bullet."
"This is different-" She starts. "How?" he asks loudly. "Luca's bullet has been written long before it was made." She answers without wasting more than a breath. Antonio looks down and rubs his hand over his balding head.
"If you think that this is the outcome that I was planning for me, and my family, then you're a fool. No one wants to break what never should even be touched." She goes on.
"You are stepping into a world you don't understand. The moment you'll understand that what you're doing is wrong, it'll be too late to even doubt your actions." He stands up and slams his hands on her bureau.
Without having flinched Gia stands up and looks him in the eye while positioning herself in the same manner.
"I'm not going to sit here and take notes of a vigliacco who ran when he understood life was going to be a bit hard. My family has been living this life for 30 years if you think I can't handle my shit, then fuck off. Don't waste the time I don't have." Gia speaks lowly.
He scoffs while he picks up his fedora. He slowly walks to the door and slightly opens it before turning around and saying, "You are everything your mother frightened you to be." He informs her before turning around but stopping again.
"Worse, you're him" He says with his back towards her before slamming the door and leaving her in her toughts. She picks up a book and throws it against the door before sitting back down.
The pen in her hand caresses the skin of the paper in fornt of her. She's thinking about her father. What would he have done? Before she realises it, she presses down to hard, leaving a big black stain.
A small, timid knock sounds through the door. The very same door only seconds ago her uncle stormed out off, sure to leave people talking. "What?" She asks loudly. The door slightly opens to show a Shelby brother.
"John." She stands up surprised. "I come in peace so, don't throw shit at me too." He slightly laughs as he puts his hands up. Gia scofds and sits back down. He clears his throat and rests his hands on the backrest of the chair.
"With a lot of convincing from Pol, mostly threatening. I came to say that I know I've been acting like a child around you." He tries to say sorry in his own manner. "I appreciate that. Sorry that my brothers made it hard." She excuses herself uncomfortably.
The silent air between them breaks as the next words fall quickly out of John's mouth? "And to say that there is a 10-year-old at Tommy's office asking for ya." He informs her. Gia furrows her brows.
"What do you mean?" Gia asks as she keeps on working, not seeing the urgency. "I don't bloody know. He just knocked and came in. His name is fucking weird too." He sits down on the chair in front of him.
Gia looks up and asks, "What is his name?" He laughs before he get's out "Ro-Rocco or some shit. A bird name if you ask me." She mumbles"Shit." Before storming out of the room.
As she runs out of the building lany people share looks but don't dare to question it. She arrives at her car but fastly stops before turning around to face John.
"What the fuck are you doing?" He yells. "Rocco Changretta." She does't have to say more for John to understand the urgency. He steps in front of the steering wheel but looks at Gia who's still holding the door open.
"Get bloody in." He tells her, but Gia doesn't move. "I promised myself to never sit in a car with you behind the steering wheel." He rolls his eyes and gives the place up.
How Gia made the normally half an hour drive in only fifteen minutes will always be a mystery for John. Once they arrive she opens the car door and runs inside. John locks the car and follows behind her.
Gia's high heels ca d be heard arriving from inside of Tommy's office. He looks at the boy and says, "Good luck." As he stands up to go, and calm her down before she murders him. She walks right past Lizzie who tries to stop her from entering as she doesn't have an appointment.
Gia get's past her and throws the door open to see Arthur, Tommy and no one else but Luca's son. Tommy slowly walks up to her and lays his hand on her shoulder. Before he can say something she lifts her finger and tells him "Save it."
She walks past him and comes to a halt right in front of him. Tommy makes eye contact with the boy and gives him a nod beofre going to sit down on his table.
You can see the flames in her eyes and steam coming out of her ears as the boy keeps on looking downwards. She clears her throat, and the boy slowly stands up.
Rocco finally looks his godmother in the eye. The small smile on his face is the last hope he has to erase the trouble he's in "Ciao, Marina." She puts her handbag down on the bureau behind him but doesn't say anything.
"Rocco, Guardami negli occhi. Ti rendi conto di cosa succederà dopo che tuo padre si renderà conto che sei con me, eh?" This is the first time Tommy hears her speak fluently Italian. The way the words roll of her tongue is erotic in a way Tommy has never heard before.
"How did you even do it?" She questions him as he doesn't answer her. "Zio had business in London. Pa let me go with him, and yeah, from then on, it was easy." He explains a bit proud of himself.
She sighs seeing the innocence in it and tells him, "You're too smart-" He cuts her short by saying, "-For my own good." She scoffs with a small smile on her face and takes him into her arms.
She breaks the embrace apart and says, "I'm not mad at you-" He cuts her off "Yes, you are" She looks him in the eyes as he clings onto her "Ok, I'm slightly mad, but you need to talk to your parents before you do stuff like this."
Arthur suddenly breaks the moment apart by saying, "Ai, we did worse things back in the day. Isn't it right John? Do you remember that one girl-" John jabs him in the ribs ands looks right at Tommy, who's eyeing the both of them.
Rocco looks back at Gia and nods before sitting back down "You really think he would let me come here?" He asks her which breaks the unknown look that Tommy's giving Gia.
"It doesn't matter what I think. You are only 10, that's why what your parents think matters. Talking about being 10, dovremmo farti un regalo di compleanno." He responds with a sad smile.
"Wipe that thing off your face e sostituiscilo con un vero sorriso." She pinches his cheek. As she picks up her bag she hears him say to Tommy, "Can I go see the racehorse?" She turns around and sees Tommy smile at him.
It's quite a beautiful view for her eyes. How could a man as dangerous as Tommy be so gentle and warm? It's a question that evades her mind most of the time.
