Chapter 40:

7:09pm.

Rivers.

They flow like time, always onward, always towards their destiny.

Each drop is a vital part of what will eventually become the aquatic world.

April feels the welcome kiss of coolness, as the breeze blows her hair forward, seeping into her warm toes.

She's walking through the forest by her home, Alessio by her side.

She must have drunk dialled him, asking him to spend the day. She can't remember.

When he just showed up at her doorstep, she had no choice but to let him in her home. Because it's better to just go with the flow than to admit your embarrassment.

The river winds through the forest, the harsh winds splashing thoroughly onto the small rocks below. By the edges lies rich soil, that seeps into the wide tree trunks by the sides of the forest.

"How're you dealing with everything?"

April almost misses Alessio's question, his voice blending exhaustively with the wind.

"My response is still the same, since the last time we spoke" Her voice is soaked with acid. The acid drops through her fingers, burning her skin.

She's starting to despise Alessio, convinced that he's hiding something.

And she needs to understand.

She needs to understand the mind of Fallon Johnson.

And Alessio seems to be the only person she confides in.

"Don't worry, you'll get through it" He sighs, forcing himself to bluntly ignore her snappy answers. "We all go through hard phases in life. We just gotta learn how to cope" Alessio sniffs the air, his nose easily accessible to the harsh smell of alcohol that surrounds April's body.

April scratches her forehead, but stays silent. He knows. He knows about my new addition.

"So, what's happening with Divine?"

"What about Divine?" She spits, her throat suddenly dry.

She refuses to mention her repetitive episodes.

Calling Divine.

Drink driving to her house at 2am.

It won't stop.

In a way, she doesn't want it to stop.

Pretending that Divine is still alive, is much easier to cope with than dealing with the fact that she is dead. Dead dead dead.

The word pauses in April's brain.

Dead dead dead dead dead dead dead.

She ignores it.

"Have you spoken to her parents? Do you know when her funeral will be taking place? I would love to attend" Alessio stops walking. He stares concerningly into her eyes. "Can I accompany you?"

Her face suddenly flusters.

She hasn't felt this way in a long time.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

She looks away. I don't trust him. I don't even know him.

He's cute though-

Yes, but I don't trust him.
