Chapter 41:

31st of November, 2020.

3:15pm.

In a madhouse, sanity looks crazy.

But in truth, conformity is insane.

Fallon walks back and forth through the empty room. Her eyes wander to the steel bars against the small window, blocking away any senses of freedom or escape.

She leans her body against the bars, poking her eyes through.

It's all about perspective.

Her eyes feel lazy, struggling to focus on layers and layers of forest that stretch behind the window.

She hasn't eaten in days.

She's hungry, but she won't eat.

Her stomach lacks proper food.

Real food.

Tear drops form in her eyes.

She's trapped.

Isolated from the outside world.

Although, it doesn't feel completely different.

She's always felt slightly distant from everybody else. From humans.

She's never thought the way they do.

Or acted the way they do.

Or understood why they are the way they are.

She's different.

She's a monster.

An outcast.

We don't want her.

Nobody does.

8th of December, 1998.

2:36am.

It's dark.

The harsh silence of the earth hangs over the skies as the street lights shine vividly over the tall buildings of Colorado.

The young child wanders through her town, her eyes scanning the roads for the designated area.

She stands by the corner shop, waiting patiently for her dealer.

He finally arrives.

They lock eyes.

The young boy grins, showing flashes of yellow teeth. His face is sulked, bones easily noticeable as they stick out vividly from his dry skin. Skinny body. He's only nineteen, but could easily be taken for thirty.

His hood stays above his head, only revealing half his face.

He's nicer than her first dealer.

The first one didn't like small talk.

"Two dub bags of green, for the young lady. Tonight's your lucky night, we're doing half price" He smirks, removing two small plastic bags from his pocket. His eyes rest on hers.

She shivers, nodding. "How much will that be?" Her body trembles.

She wants the drugs.

She needs the drugs.

"Twenty-five dollars, malady"

She hands him thirty, glancing around for any midnight bypasses. "Keep the change"
