Chapter Forty-Eight: That Horrible Taste
I rubbed my face, standing next to the kitchen bench. Bacon sizzled loudly in my ears, almost too loudly. The world turned red for two seconds, before I was lying in bed, a soft red glow poured through the windows. I heard a soft giggle and somebody crawled onto me. It didn't take me long to realise it was a child. I couldn't make out their face, but they looked over me, placing their hands on either side of my face. I felt a smile curl into my face, as I reached up a hand, lightly stroking the young ones hair, before they cuddle into my chest. I wrapped them in my arms, and felt completely content. I loved this little creature with all my heart, and I didn't wanna ever let it go. As I squeezed the. tightly to me, their loud high laughs twinkled in my ears, before somebody shook my shoulder. I woke with a start, to see a pair of chocolate brown eyes staring down at me. Vic sat next to me, his hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, I got some breakfast ready." He spoked softly, before running his hand over the side of my face, playing with my hair a little. I gave him a weak smile.
"Mmmm, I'll be up in a minute." He laughed, leaning down, his face close to mine.
"That means never doesn't it?" He chuckled, his forehead against mine. I huffed a laugh, nodding my head, before tilting my head up, capturing his lips with mine. His softly brushed my lips, pulling at my bottom one.
"It took a lot of effort to make." He murmured against my lips. I smiled against his, causing out lips to break direct contact, but we didn't move apart. I then softly groaned against his lips, pressing them once to his.
"Fine." I said defeatedly, pecking him once more, before he helped me sit up. I stretched, as he moved across the apartment, his bare feet padding on the wood floors. He disappeared into the kitchen before appearing with two plates with a bacon and egg sandwich. I gave him a soft aw.
"You're so sweet." I cooed, teasing him a little, as he gave me a cheeky smile, handing me a plate, before crawling across me, and siting on the bed next to me. I took a nibble, and looked at our rather clean apartment.
"Oh you packed up the dinner from last night. I'm sorry, I didn't realise how late I was." He gave me a soft smile, shaking his head.
"Don't worry, I understand. Did you end up finding what's wrong with your dad?" I let out a sigh, the realisation that, that part was not in a dream. I shook my head.
"No, not yet. He's having a CT scan today, because they think it may be something to do with his brain." He frowned at his plate.
"Does that mean it's something bad?" He seemed cautious, as if he was scared he'd say something that would upset me.
"We don't know, the doctor thinks he may have a brain tumour, but she said it mostly depends on where it is and what type it is for it to be deadly. If it is a tumour, there's a high chance that he'll be absolutely fine, because they can generally remove them with surgery." I explained.
"It's mostly just waiting now." My voice drifted off, feeling a little sick just thinking about it. I didn't want to loose my dad, he still had heaps of years left in him. I then was hit with an actual wave of sickness thinking about it, and I tried to push it away and ignore it.
"I'm sure it'll turn out ok." Vic didn't sound sure, but I don't think he knew what else to say. That's ok, because I didn't either. I took a bite out of my sandwich, and as soon as it touched my tastebuds, that wave of sickness hit me even harder. I clamped a hand over my mouth, quickly placing the plate on the bed, before scrambling to my feet.
"Cat?" Vic called in a concerned tone. I waved a hand at him, sprinting across the apartment. I only just made it to the toilet before I spilled my guts into it. I heard loud footsteps approach, as I felt myself wretch again.
