Chapter Thirty-Nine: Merry Shitscram
"Bye, nice meeting you too." I kissed Vic's final Aunty on the cheek, and the door closed behind her. I let out a breath.
"Wow, that was fun." I admitted, turning to Vic, seemed just as worn as I was. I grabbed Vic's arm.
"C'mon, lets help your mother clean up, considering I didn't get to help my own mother thanks to you." Vic rolled his eyes, but let me drag him with me. I talked to Viv, raving about how good her lunch was. We cleaned up the small house with a constant chatter and considering there was a few of us left, it didn't take too long. It was nearing five o'clock, and I felt really run down by the day.
"Well congratulations on making it into the family." Vic senior said from the couch. I chuckled and shrugged.
"Well, you're all very easy to get along with, so it easy for anybody." Viv hugged me to her side.
"I can't believe you and my boy are going to live together." I blushed a little, giving Vic a look.
"I know, but he's bad. I was gonna pay for it." Vic poked his tongue out at me, as he leant against the door jam with his arms folded.
"You brought me a guitar." I snorted in disbelieve.
"You brought us a house." Vic was obviously looking for a protest, but lost it. Viv softly chuckled. She rubbed my shoulder.
"You two better head home. I think your father is going to fall asleep soon." To proof a point, Victors head lolled a little before snapping back up.
"What?" I smiled at him, he reminded me a little of my dad too. Vic sighed, pushing himself off the doorframe.
"I'm a little tired to." Viv lightly pulled me towards the door.
"Viv, at least let me help you finish cleaning." She brushed me off with a small scoff.
"Don't worry darl, ill be ok by myself. I had to clean up after that one and his brother for most of my life." She jabbed her head in Vic's direction, who looked astounded. I giggled, but let myself be reluctantly dragged towards the door, feeling a little helpless.
"Aww, is Cactus leaving." Mikes voice came from the stairs. I frowned up at him.
"Since when did you call me cactus?"
"Since now."
"I don't like it."
"That's too bad." He padded down the final stairs, and pulled me into a tight hugged, swaying me like a little doll in his arms. I wrapped my arms around his skinny waist, squeezing him back. I gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Merry Christmas Mikey." I said, he gave me a goofy grin.
"Merry Shitcram Cactus." I burst out laughing, shaking my head at him. Vic appeared at his brothers shoulder, holding my bag in his hand. He held it out to me.
"Shall we take off? Cya bro." He said to Mike, giving his brother a short hug. I kissed Viv and Victors cheeks, wishing them a happy Christmas, before Vic ushered me out the door. I slumped in the passenger side of Vic's car. I let out a loud sigh, letting my head roll off the side of the seat and rest on the window. The cool glass bit at my exposed forehead. I closed my eyes for a second and just relaxed into the thought of my life. It's like somebody took away Isabel, but felt bad and piled on a whole stack of things to make me forget it. I don't forget about Isabel herself, just the feeling of knowing my best friend isn't there. There's still a part of me that's scared. There was something too perfect in how things were, as if it was simply a giant breath before you get your head shoved under water. There's a part of me waiting for the other shoe to drop, like something that's comes out of nowhere and hits me hard in the chest, knocking my breath out. There's are moments I can't choke down that feeling of dread that something is going to go wrong soon. My hands clenched from the strange anxiety building in my chest. My nails dug into my wrists, feeling my increasing pulse. The car door opened, and I jumped in surprise at being ripped from my daunting thoughts.
