Chapter Thirty-Seven: Jingle Bells

"Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin flew away." September and Charlie sung at the top of their lungs whilst running around me in circles. Ivy tugged on the edge of my dress

"Come on Cat, you know the words." I laughed at them, holding the platter full of salad above my head so it doesn't get knocked over.

"The batmobile lost its wheel and the Joker got away HEY!" The kids yelled with me. Ivy wrapped her tiny hand in my spare one, while I went to place the salad on the table. As I placed the platter on the table, I leant down, picking little Ivy up, placing her on my hip. Ivy was only four and was probably the sweetest little thing. She had honey blonde hair tied in two piggy tails, with reindeer antlers on her head, in a cute Christmas tree dress.

"Are you excited for Santa to come?" I asked in a high voice. Her smile was huge and she nodded vigorously. I gave her a chaste kiss on the forehead. Before placing her back on the ground, where she ran after her brother, who was busy chasing September around. Vic quickly lifted up a plate he was holding whilst my cousins ran around his feet. I grinned at him, taking the plate from his hands.

"Wow." Was all he said, as I heard my Aunty Olivia start roaring with laughter in the kitchen, before talking really loud about something. I shrugged, giving him a small wink, before twirling and placing the plate on the table. My mom then appeared from the kitchen.

"Dinner is served!" She managed to yell over children screaming and everyone's conversations. I sat next to Vic, with Olivia on my other side. She caught my attention and talked to me about how her students were doing in Julliard and asked how my piano was going. I then managed to turn her attention on Vic, at the simple mention of his band. I watched Julia try and make Ivy stop spraying mash potatoes over Drake, Charlie and Brad. Tammy was so close to spilling her wine over Wes as she laughed at something my mom said, as Sharon nearly choked on her own glass of red and Leanna patted her back. My dad was in some deep conversation with Jack and Pa, whilst September was trying to regain Grans attention. Granddad just sat eating his food so slowly. I couldn't help but smile down at my plate, loving the fact this was my family. It was the people you were giving when you are born, and I was lucky enough to get this assortment of characters. I glanced at Vic in the corner of my eye, talking across me to Olivia, completely intent with everything she was saying. Somehow he fitted into this weirdly shaped puzzle and I was so thankful for that.

Presents were always great, especially for the kids. They were so wonder struck by what hid under the coloured papers. As I watched them open their presents eagerly, there was a part of me that wish I had that childish joy about Christmas. Christmas was still wonderful and it still excited me, but it's never been the same for a while. I laughed at Jack as he opened my SS present. I got a beautiful bracelet from Olivia from Tiffany & Co. considering it came from New York. I also got some gorgeous smelling perfume from Gran and a gift voucher. After dessert you could see everyone slowly starting to wain and tire. Ivy laid in my lap as I curled her silky blonde hair around my finger, as she slept away. Vic looked at me in the corner of his eyes, and smiled looking at the sleeping girl in my lap. I closed my own eyes, resting my head on his shoulder. I was only awoken by relative and friends giving me a kiss goodbye. Sadly Ivy was taken away by her mother. I started to truly fall asleep on Vic as I listened to my mom fussing over cleaning. Vic played with my hair that's spilled over his shoulder, my cheek a little sore being pressed to his hard shoulder.

"Take her upstairs. She'll be annoyed that she didn't get to help clean, but she's out for the count." I only vaguely heard dad speaking. I felt Vic's chest vibrate as he spoke back.

"Is it ok for me to just stay in her room?" I heard dad softly scoff.

"Are you really asking me that? Go on, she's gonna get a sore neck sleeping like that." I was then jostled slightly, loosing the warms of Vic's shoulder pressed to my cheek. I think felt arms curl under my legs and waist, as I was lifted with a grunt.

"You good with her?" I felt Vic's head move as he nodded, as I curled my head against his chest, my forehead on his neck.

"Yeah, she's quite light. Goodnight Trevor."

"Night Vic." I was softly swayed in Vic's arms as he walked up the stairs, my hands curled in the front of his shirt. I nuzzled my face at his neck, inhaling that familiar scent and feeling like I was being welcomed home. I felt him press his lips to my head, as I heard my door creak open. He laid me softly on the bed, the skin on my legs not liking the feel of the cold sheets. I heard him messing around in my room.

"Babe, you need to put on pyjamas." His hands softly shook my shoulder. I groaned softly, swatting at his hand. He chuckled softly, before pulling me into a sitting position. He pushed my arms up, pulling my dress over my head. I opened my eyes as the fabric slid off my body. Vic looked me in the eyes, his brown eyes looking black in the dim light of the lamp. He reached out, placing his hand on the side of my face, leaving forward and the light hit his eyes at and angle and the brightest browns came alive in his eyes. He just stared back at me, his thumb softly stroking my cheek. I managed to push out a tired smile, and he copied me. He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss on my forehead, my eyes closed at his tender touch. He then helped me pull on pyjamas. I held my arms as he pulled on my soft loose Good Charlotte t-shirt and I also pulled on my sweatpants. I pulled off my bra from under my top, the sleepiness hitting me again. He pulled back the covers for me as I slid under them, my head sinking into the pillow. I peaked open one eyes, watching him pull off his shirt and replacing it with a looser shirt and his own pair of sweatpants. When he turned, I closed my eyes quickly. I had the tiniest smile on my face. I heard him click the lamp off, and I felt the mattress sink in certain places as he carefully moved over me. He slid in next to me, his warmth welcomed. He pulled me closer, wrapping his arm around my torso. I tangled my fingers in his, as I felt his breath at the back of my neck. His body clicked into perfect alignment with mine, and I felt his whole body relax against my back. I smiled, snuggling back into him. I felt a quick gust of air on my hair as he chuckled under his breath.

"Goodnight Angel."
