Chapter Nine: Evening Stars.
"Come here, I wanna show you something." I murmured to Vic. I got up off the couch, pulling him up with me. I saw my mom curled in my dad's lap on the love seat, he was softly humming a song in her ear. I smiled at them, thankful for the family I have. If I was ever going to have a relationship, I would want one like my parents. I remember when I was little, I used to sneak downstairs, to find them dancing around the lounge room with no music, laughing and occasionally kissing. I didn't need to be in a fairytale to see a perfect happily ever after. I kept my hand in Vic's welcoming one as I led him away from the basement. That house was too quiet up here. I already missed the noise of music and drunken lyrics.
"Where are we going?" Vic asked quietly. I looked up at him and smiled. I didn't answer I kept pulling him upstairs. He let himself be pulled along willingly. I led him back up to my bedroom and tugged him inside. I closed the door behind me and let go of his hand. He was watching me in confusion as I walked over to my bed. I crawled onto it and looked up at him. I patted the bed next to me and he raised an eyebrow.
"Calm down, bucko, it's not what you think." I added on, crawling over to my windows, sliding it up. I turned.
"C'mon." I pulled myself outside the window, pulling myself onto the makeshift bench. Vic poked his head out before looking up at me. I giggled and swung my legs like a little kid.
"Welcome to my little getaway." Vic pushed himself through the window fully and I helped him up to sit next to me.
"So this is how you got on your roof a while ago?" He commented, looking out onto the city of San Diego. I nodded my head, before lying back, looking up at the stars.
"This is really beautiful." Vic murmured, copying my position. We lay, shoulder to shoulder. Looking into the endless sky.
"No as beautiful as you." I said in a stupid high voice, teasing the clicheness. He laughed, his shoulder shaking against mine. His hand brushed mine, before his cautiously wrapped my fingers in his. I turned my head sideways, and he copied me. I stared into his brown eyes that glistened through the dark. I like just sitting here, staring into his eyes. I was very tempted to kiss him, but withheld myself.
"When I first met you.."
"Oh god no, don't remind me." He groaned, slapping his hand over his eyes. I laughed lightly.
"But anyway, when I found you, I asked you why you were there, and you said it was heartbreak, but you also added extra stuff on the end to." He sighed loudly, turning back to look up to the stars.
"This is a long story." He murmured.
"I have loads time." He let out a humourless laugh.
"Well, when I was younger, in high school, I had a pretty shitty time. I was bullied for most of it. Yes, I did used to harm myself." I tried to hide my small intake of breath, but it was too obvious. I felt his thumb lightly brush the back of my knuckles.
"I'm okay now, obviously. Anyway, I had just dropped out of college, and me and Mike had just moved away from our first band, and went in search for a bassist and another guitarist, hence when we found Hime, and Tone. We jammed a bit and wallah, Pierce The Veil was created. At one of our first gigs at a local club, I met a girl there. She was absolutely stunning, like you could see all the guys eyeing her in the room, yet she took it upon herself to come over and talk to me. We ended up back at my place that night. She was gone in the morning though." I felt slightly awkward as he explained, but I saw him somber slightly.
"I found her again, and she kept telling me she didn't want a relationship, that she was a rolling stone. I tried to steer clear, knowing the deeper I fell for this girl, the harder it's gone get. Yet, every time she battered her eyelashes, I'd find myself lost in empty sheets. Then her father kicked her out of her house. She came to me crying, and I let her in, keeping her safe. For her shelter, she gave us a shot. I fell head over heels in love with this girl. I felt like she loved me back too y'know? I then found her cheating on me, and discovered she had been cheating on me for quite sometime. That kinda stuff, it hits me hard. I felt like I was worth nothing, I was just another plaything to toss away. I considered my old ways, thinking of that same worthless feeling in high school, Mike talked me out of it. You just happened to be there when I drunk myself stupid over a girl that wasn't worth it." I stayed silent through his enter speech. His voice was captivating me. I could almost hear the pain he felt during that time. I was originally gonna hold back, restrain myself, but I couldn't do it. I turned over and wrapped my arm across his waist, squeezing him tight. He had gone stiff under me.
