Chapter Thirty-Four: If You're Happy and You Know It.
Ryan took off pretty quickly after dropping me off, his only mission was getting me here. He simply yelled I needed to lighten up through the door, before I heard his car leave. Jaime picked up a jacket from the ground, shrugging it onto his shoulders.
"Well, I'm gonna help out Tony with his guitar a little. So nice to see you again Cat, you do need to lighten up." Jaime bent down and gave me a kiss on my cheek. Again my lips nearly twitched into a full smile.
"See ya Hime." With that, Jaime also disappeared out the door, the sound of the door closing echoed around the house, reminding me that it was now only me and Vic. The awkwardness that washed over me made me squirm. I could see him calculating if he should touch me again after hugging, like I would bite him if he did.
"How do you feel?" He asked in a kinda formal voice.
"Umm, good I guess?" I didn't sound sure. He caught on. A silence followed and my fingers were practically trying to break each other as they fiddled.
"Do you what something to eat or drink?" He questions that were so simply made it so much worse.
"No thank you." At first we stood in the doorway, me looking at my feet and tangling hands, Vic biting his lip.
"Actually I wouldn't mind a glass of water." I spoke quick and quiet.
"Ok, I'll get you one." I was practically cringing at our interaction. Looking at Vic, I wanted to be no where else, but my mind was telling me I should have just stayed home. I decide to make my move, slipping off my vans at the door. At first I headed for the couch, but I wanted to break this stupid condescending formality between me and Vic. It's been five days not fucking five years. (Heh heh)
I made an excuse about going to the bathroom, and dawdled down the hall. I didn't go to the toilet, but went to Vic's room instead. I should have told him, but even though I'd been locked in my room, I felt tired.
"Cat?" I heard Vic call down the hall, as I sat on his bed.
"In here." I heard his footsteps approach as I laid down. The bed covered in his cologne made my muscle relax, the familiarity of it made my mind relax too. I turned my head to look at him as he walked in. I attempted a tiny smile.
"Considering I've been in bed for a while, I'm still rather tired." I saw his posture relax a little, considering I had dropped a little bit of the stiff awkwardness. He smiled at me, walking in with the glass of water. I sat up, using the water to clean my dry throat.
"Do you wanna nap for a bit? It's fine if you just do it here." I nodded the idea of sleeping sounded good. Vic closed the curtains for me, as I lay on top of his bed.
"I'm probably the worst company right now." I spoke bitterly.
"I've had worst." His voice sounded from across the room.
"But, just having you here makes it better." His voice was softer, even as he was closer. He looked down at me, and cautiously reached down, brushing my hair back from my face, making my eyes close at his touch. That was the only contact he gave me.
"If you need anything just call." He went to walk away, but I grabbed his wrist. He looked down at me, obviously expecting me to ask for something. I blinked up at him, too shy to actually say anything, hoping he'd get the picture. Thankfully he did. He took no time, getting onto the bed beside me. At first he was simply lying next to me, as I turned to face him, he did the same. Staring at him, my mind flipped through the whole Isabel thing and I thought about how long I'd been away from him. Looking into the deep brown of his eyes was when I felt tears slip off my cheeks. He reached forward and pulled me to his chest, my face squished up against his neck. I started to sob softly against his shoulder. My mind tried to get me to stop because I was embarrassed in front of Vic, but I couldn't. I continued crying quietly, as Vic stroked my hair, his legs now looped through mine.
