"So who are these guys again?" You ask your friend Jacob. You, him, and Bella were approaching a group of people sitting around a fire in jacob's backyard. "And how do you know them?"

"Well, when I disappeared for a while, I told you I was dealing with transforming into a shapeshifter?"

"You don't have to remind me," you sigh, remembering when Jacob fell off the face of the earth out of nowhere.

"These are the other members of the pack. We're all descended from wolves, and have the gene that allows us to phase and protect our people and town," he explains. Bella runs off to sit next to a woman with a scarred face.

"That's Emily, Sam's imprint and fiancee," Jacob says. You give him a strange look.

"Imprint?" You question. He laughs and pats your back, guiding you over to an empty log.

"Something that I will explain later."

"Fuck, how much comes with this life?" You tease. He sighs and plops down.

"A lot."

As you chat with Embry and Jacob, you can't help but feel someone staring at you. Glancing over, you see Paul, who had introduced himself rather quickly since the food that was cooking was announced done when he did. He was talking with Jared and Seth, but he couldn't keep his eyes off of you.

You wave to him and he smiles and winks. You turn back to Embry, listening back in on the conversation.

"Hey, I introduced myself earlier, but I got distracted," Paul introduces himself again, taking a seat next to you.

Jacob had gotten up to talk with Sam, Bella, and Emily, while Embry went and got more food, leaving you alone.

"Yeah, I get it, food is more important. I don't blame you," you joke. He chuckles and clears his throat.

"So, you're friends with Jacob?"

"Yeah. His dad and my dad know each other because he often orders from the diner my dad works at. Jacob sometimes comes in to pick his dad's order up, and my dad basically saw that Billy has a son my age, and got us together," you explain. "It sounds easy to explain in my head, but yeah." Paul laughs along with your awkwardness, but in a nice way.

"Kinda upsetting that he's the only one you know here and he left you all alone," Paul points out. You shrug and stare into the fire.

"I don't mind. He's not required to be by my side. I enjoy other company," you lightly flirt. Paul raises his eyebrows and scoots a little closer to you. Immediately, you notice the heat radiating from his body.

"Oh my god, you're like a furnace," you gasp. "Is this why Jake never wears a jacket anymore?"

"Yeah," Paul laughs. "A perk of being a wolf is a higher body temperature."

"It's good for your girlfriend, though. Always warm, having a personal furnace."

"Actually, I don't have a girlfriend," he corrects. You smile and look down in your lap, flushing a little.

"Well, good to know."

Ever since that day, you and Paul grow closer and closer. He ended up getting your phone number at the end of the night, and he texted you whenever he had the chance.

You decided to keep this a secret, not for any reason other than you weren't sure where your relationship would go, because the idea of Paul having an imprint was constantly in your mind. You didn't want to grow attached to him, and then find out he imprinted on another girl; Jacob told you all about imprinting to you the day after the bonfire, and it's all you could think about.
