Garrett thinking you're just a human.

It started when you first met him.

You had been out in the woods picking herbs for your store. Thyme, dandelion, mint, and cleavers. You had been running low and this was the only place where you could fine pure herbs in the wild.

There were other herbs for sale in town and in stores, but those were grown with pesticides and you preferred your herbs wild and natural.

"And what is a young lady like you doing out here all alone?" You jumped and turned suddenly, your basket of herbs falling to the floor.

Standing there was a man with wild maroon eyes that stood out against his pale white skin. His face was framed by chin length shaggy brown hair.

You narrowed your eyes and picked your basket back up. "What's a creep doing here spying on me?" You countered as you hugged the herbs to your chest.

The man seemed bewildered by your presence. He mumbled something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like 'damn near three hundred years.' "I was just passing through when I saw you on the ground there picking... Dandelions?" He raised an eyebrow. "You know those are weeds right? Not flowers."

You weren't amused. "I'm not a child. I know dandelions aren't flowers." You turned on your heel and started walking in the direction of town. It was a little ways away, but you always enjoyed a good nature walk. It gave you the opportunity to grab any extra herbs you might've missed.

For some reason the man thought this was an invitation for him to follow you.

"So, what is your name? Where are you going? I'm Garrett." He introduced, his hand coming out to shake yours.

You didn't touch him. "I didn't ask, nor do I want you following me. And why would I tell a strange man where I'm going?" You stopped to inspect a patch of growing basil. After picking a good amount and putting it into your basket, you started walking again.

You tried ignoring the man as he kept asking questions. You figured if you didn't give him answers, he would grow bored and just leave.

When you reached the beginning of town, you turned to find Garrett had disappeared. You shrugged and continued on towards your shop. Hopefully you wouldn't see Garrett again.

The next day the bell above your store's front door rang, signaling the arrival of a customer. You turned to greet them, wide smile on your face. "Good morn- oh."

There was Garrett, giving you a toothy grin. "Hello. Y/N, right? I asked someone in town the name of the cute tea shop owner." He looked around at the store, motioning at the jars of herbs.

You glared. "This is an herbal pharmacy." You corrected, your arms crossing. "What are you even doing here? You don't need any of this stuff."

"How do you know that? Maybe I need a bunch of..." He picked up a jar of Black Cohosh. "Black Coohosh." He raised an eyebrow when you started to snicker. "What's so funny?"

You shook your head and took the jar from him. "This is Black Cohosh. Commonly used to relieve period cramps or menopausal symptoms. Do you have those? Because I'll throw in a free heated water bottle for you too." You placed the jar back on the shelf with a small smirk.

Garrett returned the smirk and rocked back on his heels, not really looking all that sheepish. "No, I don't have any of that. But I do have some pain in my chest when I'm away from you." He leaned against the wall and stared down at you, his height slightly intimidating.

Slightly.

You raised an eyebrow. "Turmeric and Chewable Licorice. Helps with heartburn. I can sell you some but other than that I think you're out of luck." You shrugged and headed back to the counter.

He chuckled and watched you walk, even more intrigued by your sass. You didn't fall for his inhuman beauty like most women did, and he liked that about you. He also enjoyed the fact that you were alone here, which meant he didn't have to worry about other humans interrupting his time with you.

He checked outside and hummed. "Seems I gotta go gorgeous, but I'll see you around." He shot you a wink and headed for the door, the jingle of the bell signaling his departure.

What a strange man he is. You thought with a shake of your head.

Garrett came back the next morning only to find the door was locked. According to the sign the store should've been open by now, but the door was locked and you were nowhere in sight.

Garrett could still sense you inside though. As much as he wanted to see you, he wouldn't break into your store.

...yet.

When hours passed and you still didn't open, Garrett had enough of waiting. He needed to make sure you were okay. What if you got hurt and passed out? Humans were so fragile and he didn't know if you were accident prone like some humans.

He picked the lock, promising himself that once he checked on you and made sure you were alive, he'd leave.

When he opened the door he shot his hand out to hold the bell. Maybe you were sleeping and he didn't want to wake you. It had been a while since he had seen a sleeping human anyway.

He stepped into the store and started walking towards your scent. Your heartbeat grew louder as he got closer, and he could hear soft murmuring. It sounded almost like... latin?

He crept into the back of the store and was about to pass your room when he saw you.

Hovering.

In the air.

Your eyes were closed as you were focusing on chanting a new spell. Various ingredients were floating around you, some being thrown in a steaming cauldron while others were put back on the shelf.

You sensed a new presence and your eyes immediately snapped open to see Garrett there, staring at you in utter disbelief. "You're a witch?" He asked, eyes flickering from you to your still floating objects.

You scowled and crossed your arms. "And you're a vampire. We can all make observations. Why are you in my home?" You demanded, not afraid to use your powers since your cover was now blown.

Garrett grinned. "Because I will follow you anywhere, woman."
