You hesitated briefly as Carlisle sped away before deciding to take a seat to wait. Nervous about who was at the door.

It took Carlisle fractions of a second to get to the door and he was entirely shocked to see Rosalie and Emmett stood on the other side.

"Is everything ok? I can smell someone." Rosalie stated abruptly with a slight look of concern on her face.

"Everything's fine. I just have a guest."

"A guest?" Emmett said shocked.

"Yes." Carlisle moved aside to let them in.

"A human guest? Colleague? What's with the music?" They could all hear the soft music playing due to their hearing.

"No."

Carlisle led the way into the room that you were sat in and you instantly got to your feet to greet them. "Hi, I'm Y/N." you greeted, walking over to them with your hand out to shake. "You must be Rosalie and Emmett."

Rosalie looked at Carlisle shocked and he moved beside you protectively.

"Oh my God, Pa's at it again. Back in the saddle." Emmett joked, bringing his hand to his chest as he laughed.

"Another mix up with a human?" Rosalie scoffed "Of all people I would have never thought you'd be one to do this."

Carlisle stayed calm and composed "Rose. Y/N has helped me a great deal."

"Yeah Rose calm down. He knows what he's doing." Emmett said putting a hand on her arm to comfort her slightly.

"Calm down? We know all of the stuff we had to deal with last time-"

"I think it might be best for me to leave." you spoke up.

"You don't have to leave." Carlisle spoke calmly. "Go and wait in my office." you nodded and swiftly exited, knowing the layout of the house well you slipped into his office and took a seat.

"I'm calling the others." Rosalie threatened.

"Wait. Listen, you need to understand. This isn't some obsession that helped me grieve or in any way like what Bella and Edward had. It won't turn sour. I grieved Esme for a long time. I still hurt and ache for her today but in a different way. We loved each other for more than a lifetime and expected eternity together but unfortunately we didn't get that."

Rosalie had gone completely silent and just stood with her arms crossed in front of Carlisle.

"She was an absolutely selfless woman who did everything for us. Supported us all no matter what. We all did some questionable things but she never judged us. Yeah she put us in our place at times but it was needed. She died in a way she wouldn't regret and we all need to come to terms with that. She wouldn't want us to stay entirely hung up on her death and you know that."

Rosalie's arms dropped and Emmett brought her into his side.

"I met Y/N at work, she was my secretary for a short period because she was covering someone's leave. We became friends, nothing more. After she left her post I realised how much I missed her company. Sure I have other friends at the hospital but I missed her. I asked her to go on a walk in the park and ... I won't bore you with the rest. The relationship was slow but blossomed and I need you to respect that. You know I wouldn't disrespect Esme, I love her and I love Y/N, the relationship has only been official for a couple of days"

"So you've been friends for a while?" Emmett questioned. Hoping the clarity would help Rosalie understand.

"Yes we've known each other for a year and I explained the whole being a vampire thing around 3 months ago."

"Have you had a conversation about the future?" Rosalie asked in a softer tone.

"We're only early into the relationship."

"But you know it's a conversation that needs to be had. Sooner rather than later." she paused for a second "I'd suggest having it soon so I can decide how I feel about this properly. I'll go get our things from the car." She said to Emmett, turning away and leaving the room at human pace to have some time to herself.

Carlisle looked at Emmett softly "Why did you two come here anyway?"

Emmett smiled sadly "We're ready to live as a unit again. The time alone was fun but we both miss the family dynamic." upon saying the words Carlisle nodded in response and left the room to find you.

As the door opened you stood up instinctively and approached Carlisle "Is everything ok? I understand if they want me to leave or-"

"You don't need to leave." the man smiled and guided you over to the sofa in the office, you took it as an indication to sit down. "We need to have a conversation. I didn't want to have it so soon but Rosalie is right and we need to."

You nodded "Anything."

He smiled and took your hand. "I know we're still very early in this relationship but we've been friends for a longer time. I don't need decisions, just ideas and thoughts." he paused "I've told you about Bella and Edward and how adamant Bella was to stay with Edward. She wanted to be turned and we had to compromise until we couldn't hold off anymore. That's their story to tell in full but what are your thoughts and feelings on the future? aging? turning..." his words trailed off.

You thought it over for a second "Well. I don't want to be turned unless I have to be, I love you but I also want to appreciate what I have. I don't want to jeopardise you or the family though and I know there might be a point where I have to be turned or might have to step away."

He nodded "I love you too."

You didn't even realise you'd said it until he said it back and your heart leaped "I... I didn't eve nrealise, it slipped out."

The man smiled "I mean it. I love you too and your answer is understandable."

Rosalie stepped into the room with her arms crossed, Emmett just behind her. "I suppose that's the right answer. Treasuring humanity over being a monster."

Carlisle stood and you mirrored his actions "I know we've all met but I want you to formally meet Rosalie and Emmett. Rose, Em, this is Y/N, my girlfriend."

"Don't say it like that it sounds weird." Emmet laughed "Hi Y/N I'm Emmett but you can call me Em since you're now in on all of this."

You shook the man's hand "It's lovely to meet you."

Rosalie dropped her arms in defeat and offered you her hand "Sorry for listening in but you know. We had some trouble last time and we really can't help it with our enhanced hearing and all."

"Rose we both know we can choose what we want to hear." Emmett interrupted.

"Shut it Em."

You laughed "Hi, again it's lovely to meet you. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous by the way."

She let go of your hand and laughed lightly, bringing her hand to her hair "Thank you."

"One thing. We don't have to call you mom right?"

You laughed and Carlisle made a sound as if he was choking. "Emmett."

"What? Esme was like a Mom to us. Is Y/N going to-"

"I'm not trying to replace Esme see me how you want and call me what you want I really don't mind." you smiled.

Carlisle slipped his hand in yours and brought it to his lips, placing a kiss to the back of your hand.

Rosalie looked away briefly "We should tell the others. So they don't have a shock like we did."

Carlisle nodded in agreement "We'll make the phone calls tonight."
