What the hell is happening?

Is this what they mean when they say you know when you find it? It's all you can focus on, the burn in your veins, the heat rising in your abdomen, the desire to run to him. Your brain runs in circles of disbelief, you don't even know this guy, never spoken to him nor even know his name. It's like the fairytales, but your rational side knows life isn't a fairytale and fights your heart in an internal war all the while your body temperature rises. Neither one of you breaks the connection. Sweat begins to bead on your lower back as you struggle to catch your breath. Your head drops.

"Girl, you don't look so hot" Sarah's hand shoots out to your forehead, pushing your hair out of the way. You grunt in acknowledgement, suddenly not having the energy to talk. "Shit, you're burning up." Her voice echoes around your skull, hurting as it burrows down. Is Billy still talking? Panic starts to choke you at the thought of the situation, everyone can see. "Hey..." There she is again, drifting in and out of your head "can... stand?" Hands are under your arms trying to hoist you up but to know avail. Instead you both sink to the ground, unable to move as the burning entraps your body, paralysing your muscles. You can't speak, can't move, can't process anything but the agonising pain ripping you in half. You're aware of your breathing, it's sharp, wheezing in and out of you. Is this the end? Strong arms wrap around you, pulling you off the ground into the air, holding you safe and secure.

"Paul!" It was angry and loud enough to penetrate into your mind, making it the last thing you remember before slipping into oblivion.

Paul.

Rain pours heavy and thick down upon the world, seeping through the tree canopy and turning the forest floor into slush. It's dark, only the light of the moon illuminating the scene which is defused by the cloud cover. Your hot breath comes out in clouds of steam as it hits the cold of the night and the wet of the rain as you stand stranded, arms wrapping around your torso to conserve heat. You notice your bare forearms and look down to study your body, clothed in your underwear and camisole which are now soaked through. Violent shivers spasm down your spine, forcing you to double over breathing in shakily, clutching at flimsy material. Tears brim over your eyes in confusement and fear as they lock onto the person emerging from the shrubbery. You can't make out who it is, but you feel the danger radiating off them and yet don't run. As they come closer their eyes catch your attention as light hits them causing them to reflect. Flinching back you stumble, your upper body crashing downwards as your feet stay planted in the mud. You cry out as pain splinters up the arm you land on, only distracting you for a few seconds before the figure looms into view again, no longer stalking in the shadows. Your breath hitches as you recognise the man. Flight instinct kicks in, your feet no longer cemented in the ground but running, getting you as far away as possible. The soft flesh of your feet scrape across pine needles and rocks, earning a grimace from your mouth, but it's the price of saving yourself. You slow down when you convince yourself you're at a safe distance. The rain getting heavier until you can hardly see a few meters ahead of you. Water runs into your eyes, stinging, making it doubly as hard to see, let alone move around.

Lightning crashes nearby, lighting the surroundings and widening the scope of vision. The hairs rise on your neck sensing someone else is here. Your breath is stolen when his figure is silhouetted by a second flash, he couldn't be more than two meters away. Branches snap to your side. It all happens so quick, the third bolt of lightning crashes behind you, the brightest yet, showing the beast in the trees. It's yellow brown eyes glowing, hackles raised as it's poised to pounce; a ginormous wolf.
