You couldn't understand what had gotten into you lately; everything was putting you on edge, your frustration constantly boiling just under your skin, threatening to bubble over and burn everything around you. You knew your life was in a great place right now so this ongoing unease had you confused. The new house your parents bought just outside the reservation was lovely, with your own bathroom and reading nook, and you enjoyed the calm summer weather of Forks. The cherry on the happiness of life was that you had found Paul, who stood by you through this current onslaught of inexplicable fire coursing through you, always a second away from lighting up the world you loved. True, before Paul has explained his shifting and what imprinting was, things were a bit confusing and tense, but those feelings were nothing compared to how your emotions were repeatedly flaring now.

Currently, you were in your car, on your way to meet your boyfriend at the beach. You'd hoped that he could once again calm the sea of your stormy heart as he had over and over during the past month or so. You chuckled to yourself at the idea of Paul being the calm one; usually he was the one alive with irritation and you were the one to douse the ire with compassion. It was good practice for him, you decided to yourself, but still these uncontrollable emotions within you nagged at your mind.

You parked your car, turning up the calming music you'd bought yourself and waited for Paul to appear. What you saw next, turned your heart to darkened coal, rock hard and solid, ready to fuel the fire that was dancing behind your eyes.

It was innocent enough, Paul was walking next to a dark hair girl who had Jacob's easy smile; this must be Rachel Black. He caught sight of your car and as he turned to leave her, she hugged him before turning back toward the way she came. He jogged up towards where you sat clenching your steering wheel so hard your fingers had lost their feeling. You whispered to yourself how silly you were being and how it was no big deal to hug a friend, this you knew to be true, but it wouldn't soak up the gasoline that was dripping down your throat onto the already warmed coals in your chest.

As he reached you, you flung open the car door. His wide smile would normally stop your heart in its tracks but today just the sight of him was like lighting a match in your lungs, tiptoeing dangerously close to the fire threatening to flame up within you.

"Hi babe!"

"Hi."

He leaned forward to hug you as you stood up, but you pushed his arm away harshly. He looked at your outstretched hand, dumbfounded.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, Paul, nothing at all."

"It doesn't seem like nothing."

"Yeah well, it is. I don't think I wanna be around the beach right now, or you. You could spend time with Rachel though, you seem to enjoy that."

He was in your path to the sand so instead, you turned and stalked into the woods. He caught up with you as soon as you broke through the heavy tree line.

"Babe, she's Jacob's sister. I was just being frien- woah, (Y/N), you're on fire. Are you sick?" He had just grabbed your arm gently, turning you back toward him.

"Yeah I'm sick of this!" You exclaimed loudly, hands starting to shake.

He raised his eyebrows. "I'm sick of it too."

That misinterpreted line had been the final toss of the match into the fuel that incinerated your heart and drove your body insane. Your eyes blurred, body convulsing so hard your entire vision was shaking. The only thing you could focus on was Paul's face, painted with concern and shock.

Suddenly, all you could focus on was the crippling pain spreading through your body like poison. You closed your eyes, doubling over as the poison ripped at your skin, stretching your appendages and throwing them to the ground.

Without warning, the pain stopped and you lay there, panting on the ground. You could hear the man's voice yelling but it wasn't Paul.

"...Sam?"

Sam stopped talking. There was quiet in your head for a moment before the voices continued. "(Y/N)? It's alright, it's going to be alright."

"We're coming to you, stay calm."

"Someone get Paul."

"Paul's here," you thought out to them, looking for the man you loved. When you caught sight of him, standing there open mouthed, hands shaking, you had the sudden sensation of someone kicking your knees out from underneath you. The woods were spinning around you and the only thing you could focus on was him; the only thing you'd ever focus on again would be him. The world could freeze over tomorrow and as long as he survived, you would too.

He shifted then, not seeming to care about destroying his clothes. "Babe?"

"Yeah I'm here."

"Did you just.. imprint on me?"

"I.. I think so."

You could feel his elation coursing through your veins; it was a strange, but not uncomfortable, sensation.

Somewhere in your head, Quil groaned. "Oh man, this is gonna be gross isn't it?"

"Shut up," you and Paul thought in sync, then laughed together.

"I think it's gonna be awesome."
