This wasn't right. This wasn't the way things were supposed to go. (Y/N) had seen him, through the window of his apartment, kissing that girl from school. (Y/N) had known that girl. She was a cheerleader, one of the over-the-top blonde girls. She was a stereotype, yet Paul had chosen her over his imprint. Imprint wasn't a word to be taken lightly. It was a word that meant partner for life. Clearly that meant nothing to Paul, as he had thrown everything he and (Y/N) had away.

Now (Y/N) was running. She didn't know where, but she had to leave. She'd gone to see Paul to tell him something. Now, he had lost the right to know anything about her life. He had lost the right to their baby, the one she had just found out about. (Y/N) couldn't tell Paul now, not after everything she'd just seen. So, she got in her car and drove like crazy. She never wanted to see him again. (Y/N) threw her phone out the window, as she sped down the road.

Paul had been ringing (Y/N) for weeks, but she never picked up. She'd disappeared with no word to anyone as to where she was going. The cheerleader girl kept hanging around. She said now that his girlfriend was gone, they could be together properly. However, Paul didn't want that. His heart longed for (Y/N), but he didn't know how to reach her. She was his imprint, his soulmate. No one could replace her. It was a stupid mistake, to kiss the cheerleader. Paul wished he could go back in time and undo everything, but he couldn't.

The pack noticed his lack of enthusiasm for anything. it was a Friday night and Sam had called a pack meeting. "Okay, so anyone have anything they want to talk about this week?" he asked the group. Embry raised his hand and Sam nodded for him to speak.

"What's up with Paul?"

Paul looked up at the mention of his name.

"Yeah," Seth chimed in, "He's been unusually quiet recently."

"Keep out of it," Paul snapped.

"And where's (Y/N) these days?" Embry refused to drop the subject.

"She's left!" Paul yelled. "She ran away and she didn't tell me. I don't know where she is." He broke down, his head in his hands. "She's been gone for weeks."

"Then we'll search for her," Sam said. "Everyone in the pack will help Paul find (Y/N). That's an order." With that, the meeting concluded.

Embry approached Paul afterwards. "Hey, man, I'm sorry for questioning you like that."

"It's all my fault," Paul replied. Embry just looked at him, confused. "I cheated on (Y/N) and now she's gone and I have no way to make it right. I think she must have found out somehow. I need to find her, Em."

Embry nodded, gravely. "Well, the whole pack is on the look-out and Sam will get Emily to ask all her and (Y/N)'s friends. Don't worry, we'll find her." Embry patted his friend on the back.

9 Months Later:

A bedraggled, tear-stained (Y/N) appeared in the hospital lobby. Her belly was swollen with pregnancy. She heaved herself over to the desk and was immediately swarmed by nurses. They sat her in a wheelchair and took her to surgery. Blood stained her jeans.

14 hours later and as a new life came into the world, another one left. With no ID in her belongings and no father or relative to give the baby to the hospital called for the baby to be put up for adoption. They also contacted the police, so they could know who this woman was. (Y/N) had gone into hiding when she ran away. She'd escaped to Canada and with no family at home for her, she felt no need to tell anyone she had gone. The pack had been her family, but she hadn't felt at home there after what Paul did. She was completely alone. She had planned on being a single mother. However, things don't always turn out as planned and the birth was a lot more complicated than anticipated. This left a baby boy without a mother and with a father who didn't know he existed.

The hunt for (Y/N)'s identity reached Charlie Swan, in Forks. Knowing immediately who she was, he contacted Paul. Paul's stomach dropped when Charlie sat him down at the police station and told him the news. (Y/N) had passed away giving birth to their son, their son that was alive and looking for a family. He wasted no time and rushed to Canada to claim his child.

The doctor did a DNA test and confirmed Paul was the father. A nurse entered the small office carrying a tiny bundle. The bundle wriggled and a hand appeared from the blanket. Paul took the baby in his arms and his tears streamed down his cheeks. "I'll give you a moment," the nurse said, leaving the room.

Paul looked into his sons' eyes and saw (Y/N). "I made a horrible mistake with your mum," he whispered, "I didn't look after her the way I should have and I will regret that everyday of my life," Paul paused to wipe away the tears, "But I'll never make that mistake again. I'm going to be here for you, every single day of your life. I'm going to protect you, the way I should have protected your mum. I promise you that."

The nurse knocked on the door. "This was the only thing in Miss (Y/L/N)'s belongings when she arrived." She held out a folded scrap of paper. "I can only assume it was meant for you." She handed it to Paul and left.

Paul balanced his son on one arm and unfolded the note. His breath hitched as he saw her handwriting.

My love,

I don't know why you did it, but I can only assume you knew about the baby and didn't want it. I imagine you wanted freedom. Everything you ever said to me about having a family was a lie. I wanted to tell you, but then I saw you with her. That's why I ran. I thought I was strong enough to do this on my own, but I don't think I am. There's something wrong. I'm in so much pain. I just want our child to be safe, so if they survive and you somehow find this letter, please care for them. I don't want them to grow up without a proper family, particularly if they inherit our background. If that gets out, god knows what will happen.

Teach our child to be honest and kind, something you always were to me. Tell them that their mum didn't want to leave so soon. I wanted to see their first steps and first words. I wanted to see them grow up. I don't have a choice in that matter, but you do.

Take care of our baby and know that I never stopped loving you.

All my love.

Paul folded the letter and hid it in his pocket. He held his son close to his chest and rocked him gently. He looked up, as if speaking to no one. "I never stopped either."
