It had been a few weeks since your meeting with Carlisle and after spending almost every free moment with him, you still couldn't find a negative quality in the gentle vampire. And judging by the way his eyes almost glowed with admiration every time they fell upon you, he didn't seem to find a single thing he didn't like about you either. He loved to try the things you loved doing, excelling at most of them, of course, and he adored watching you do things on your own. His favorite had to be witnessing you splayed out somewhere, reading a book.

It was one of these times, when he sat down gently beside you on his couch, finally steeling his nerves. You looked up immediately, a smile gracing your face. He continued to stare at you for a minute before he spoke.

"(Y/N), I was wondering if we could talk for a minute."

You closed your book without hesitation, tossing it gently onto the coffee table. "Sure, what's up?"

He smiled nervously. "We have been spending a lot of time together and I was hoping we could discuss that."

You raised an eyebrow. "Okay...?"

He sighed; he was hoping you had picked up on his feelings more thoroughly already but clearly he wasn't obvious enough.

"Bella and Edward explained before how drawn to you I am, correct?"

You nodded, unsure of this conversation's path.

"Well I'm not drawn to you just to protect you. I'm drawn to you because I think you're lovely, kind and selfless. I know you're one of the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure of knowing in my whole existence and I'm hoping one day you can come to care about me just a fraction of how much I care for you." He sighed again, his voice softer than before. "I just wanted to make my feelings perfectly transparent so there is never any confusion between us."

You sat there quietly for a minute, just staring back into the butterscotch eyes that you've come to adore.

"Carlisle," you finally said, "I'm sorry if you thought there was ever any confusion. I care for you very much and I love spending time with you." You leaned forward, placing your hand over his icy ones, clasped together over his knees.

He smiled, his nerves thrilling at the contact with your skin. "I'm glad you feel that way."

His eyes glanced down at your mouth and he could swear his unbeating heart was going to start up again at the thought of pulling you gently into him and feeling the softness, the warmth, of your lips brush against his. As if you could read his mind, your body shifted closer to his and without any more hesitation, he slid his hands out from underneath yours and up your arms.

"(Y/N), I was hoping you'd allow me to kiss you."

You smiled at his offer, his constant respect for your wishes. "Absolutely."

He guided you gently into his outstretched arms, you happily following his lead, before he tilted his pale face down to yours, grazing his icy lips against your warm ones delicately.

When he pulled away, too soon for your liking, his smile was absolutely blinding.

"Thank you," he whispered, "my love."

You heart imploded upon itself into a supernova of emotion at his words, your mind a muffled haze stuck on the feeling of his lips against yours.

"You can thank me properly, you know."

He smiled, his eyebrows pulled together in curiosity. "And how's that, (Y/N)?"

"By kissing me again."

From then on, he thanked you properly quite often.
