🍷READER'S POV 🍷

Voices echo through the halls, along with furtive whispers here and there, as members of the Guard discuss the newest piece of news. A large coven by the name of Cullen has been suspected of being involved in the army of Newborns outside of Seattle. The very same group of Newborns you used to be a part of, you were almost sure of it.

Alec nudges you lightly as he walks by, a small smirk on his face. "Going to put someone's eye out tonight, Y/N?" he teases you. You stick your tongue out at him, grinning. "Thought that was your job." you tease back, winking at him. He holds up his hands towards you, wiggling his fingers in a playful motion. "Volunteering, are we?" he asks with another smirk. You shake your head at him as you hurry past to catch up with Felix, who's just rounded the corner.

"Not likely!" you call over your shoulder. You can still hear his laughter behind you as you finally slow to walk beside your mate. He gives you a sideways glance, a small smile on his face. "You two sure are getting along better." he notes. You shrug, not revealing anything.

He was right, though. Over the course of the past week, you and Alec had grown a little closer ever since you showed him that you had perfected your Gift. His sister, Jane, had taken a little more effort. It was slow progress with her, but as long as she saw that Alec was in a better mood around you, it didn't much matter to her. Speaking of the little devil...

She's coming down the opposite side of the hallway, towards you and Felix. When she sees you, she nods in greeting, before glancing at Felix. "Y/N. Felix. The Masters want the five of us to go to some place called Forks. Demetri checked it on the map, it's only a short distance from Seattle. They want us to check up on the Cullens." she announces.

Felix comes to a stop in the middle of the hallway, a frown on his face. "Shit. It's that time, already? We weren't due to head down there until... Wait a minute. Five of us? Meaning...?" he starts, quickly glancing down at you before looking back at Jane. The petite blonde nods, her red eyes focused on yours. "Yes. Her. This could get ugly, we might need her. As much as I really don't want to admit it." she answers.

You step forward then, holding out your arms with a small smile on your face. It was well-known throughout the castle that the Twins rarely ever showed affection, a rumor that had proved to be true. Jane still had yet to hug you; Alec already did, once before. The small blonde eyes your arms with a barely-concealed look of disgust at first, before that look turns into one of resignation.

Hesitantly, she steps into your embrace, taking what seems like minutes before she finally relaxes, hugging you back. Her scent surrounds you: warm vanilla, citrus, and a hint of a darker fruit, something like pomegranate or cherry. It's oddly comforting, and you do your best to commit the scent to memory. As she pulls away, she eyes you with a questioning look on her face, though she doesn't voice it aloud.

Instead, she straightens her cloak, turning to face Felix. "Demetri's already waiting for us out in the east field. We need to leave now if we hope to make it there by morning. Have you two eaten already?" she asks, one perfect little blonde eyebrow raised. You and Felix exchange a look, a knowing smile. "We hunted on the outskirts of Florence earlier this afternoon..." he answers in a low voice. The memory comes back to you, warm and welcoming and seductive in it's dark nature....
