Context: You are adopted by Carlisle and Esme and come to learn who they truly are...but it's up to you to decide whether you want this life or not.

Warnings: zero

-----

Carlisle was the first one to spot you, watching you from the corner of his eye in the hospital wing where people rarely came to visit. You had been paralyzed from the waist down after an accident that took both your parents and your little brother. The wheelchair they had provided you with was less than comfortable and made you feel like nothing was worth it anymore.

You felt hopeless, hearing the doctors and nurses tell you there's a slight chance that you'll be able to walk again, but you knew, with every physical therapy appointment, that would never happen. You tried now, standing up, holding onto the rail on the side of the wall. Hoisting yourself up into a standing position, using only your upper body strength, you made it a step forward before your body gave way under the pressure, sending you to the floor. Carlisle was there in a heartbeat, catching your head before it smacked into the cold tiles.

"Are you alright?" He asked, his cold hands pulling you back into the wheelchair gracefully.

You felt a tear roll down your cheek and you slumped forward, a sob escaping your body. "Why did this happen to me?" You cried.

Carlisle put his hand on the middle of your back, slowly rubbing circles. "I don't know why bad things happen to us, but I do know that they get better." You looked up at him through teary eyes and saw his smile. His skin was as pale as snow and you thought maybe he was a ghost.

"I'm Carlisle, the main doctor here." He said, crouching down in front of you.

You nodded. "I'm Y/N." You said with a small smile.

Months went by and Carlisle came to see you every day, bringing you books and flowers, anything to keep your mind off the dreary white walls and stale hospital air.

He eventually brought his wife, Esme, with him, stating that they wanted to ask you a serious question.

Esme was beautiful and reminded you of your own mother, sweet and caring with a hint of authority.

"We want to know if you would like to join our family." Esme said, smiling wide. Your heart sank as the realization hit you. You would be homeless once you left the hospital. Your parents were dead, and all your living relatives wanted nothing to do with you. A tear escaped from the corner of your eye as you looked at Carlisle and Esme. Both had already done so much for you.

"Are you sure? I'm sort of a burden." You said, pointing to the wheelchair.

"Nonsense," Carlisle said walking over to you, "You could never be a burden."

For the first time in a long time you genuinely felt happy. You accepted their offer and a week later signed the papers as their new adopted daughter.

A week after that was your release date. Carlisle and Esme both picked you up in their car, telling you about the room they had picked out for you and how excited their other children were to meet you. As you pulled up to the Cullen home, you noticed that all their children were the same pale, golden eyed people as Carlisle and Esme were, yet they were all adopted.

Edward was the first to introduce himself, helping you out of the car and into the new wheelchair that they had bought for you. This one was electric and had the most comfortable padding. Everyone else smiled and you noticed how they were all cold to the touch as they shook your hand or hugged you.
