A/N I can't get enough of him :) This takes place after Rain and Reflections, which if you have not read, I hope you do. Alice and Jasper aren't together in this one either, just brother and sister. Let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Warning: this does touch on some suggestive and triggering themes

Running is something you were used to doing.

You've done it all your life, and sure enough, that's what you did in the next.

You've been on your own for about twenty years now, and were actually content with your life. You'd lived in Houston during the Civil War, as you and your family were slaves. That's where you were born, lived, and turned.

There, you met a fellow named Jasper, who was feared by everyone-excluding you of course. He, in your eyes, was more than just a killer. He was more than his strength and agility others exploited him for, and he loved you for it.

The two of you ended up running away together, and you were willing to go through hell, just as long as he was there.

Your paradise was short lived, for a vampire that is, when you'd decided to go back to the place it all began. Alone.

You wanted to go back to Houston, but there was no way you could go with Jasper, as much as you wanted to.There was one tiny (big) problem.

You were black and he was white, and that was illegal in the South during the 1960′s. Although you were both fully capable of dealing with this, you would raise too many eyebrows and you wouldn't dare put him through anymore years of hate and pain. He'd already been through enough with Maria and put up with you for decades.

It was time to let him go.

You sighed, rocking back and forth in a chair, enjoying the crisp breeze on the porch of the old mansion you now owned.

"Where are we going, Jasper? Maria could still find us!"

"I promise you, I ain't gonna let that happen, (YN)." He pushed of strand of hair behind you ear.

"I don't know what we're gonna to do, but I promise you, I'll be here with you darlin'." You smiled at the nickname.

"Race ya, to the next town!" You took off deeper into the forest. Jasper chuckled, and followed your lead.

Your phone rang, interrupting your thoughts.

"Hey, Alicia." You answered. Alicia was one of your friends from Houston, who moved away a few months back. Like you, she was also turned, and you were glad to have something good from your past with you in the present.

"Hey, hon. I need your help with something."

"Anything, shoot."

"Well, it turns out another coven lives up here in Washington. You heard of the Cullen's before?" She questioned.

"Yeah, I do. They're on the Volturi's shit list, everyone knows that." She knew of your past with Jasper, but not to the full extent.

"You're right, but this time, two of their members has a daughter together. The child was born while the mother was still human, but the Volturi think otherwise and want to kill her. They need all the help they can get." She finished.

"You've made friends with them haven't you?" You smirked.

"Yes, I have. So you'll help?" You pondered for a moment, knowing full well the consequences of your next decision. But you'd spent most of your life thinking, and, frankly, you were exhausted.

This time, your heart made the decision for you.

"Of course I will. No one deserves to die because they are different." You stood from your chair, "Make room for me at your place. I'll be there in a few days."

In Forks, Washington, Jasper was about to lose it.

He had no hard feelings toward Bella and had agreed to help her, but he wasn't to pleased to find that his past had come back to haunt him throughout this whole fiasco.

Victoria and her clan of newborns would arrive in a matter of days, and with his military background, it would be idiotic of him not to help train his family and temporary shape-shifting allies, all because of a silly fear. His family was on edge and he was the only one that could keep their cool all the way through, that wasn't going to change, especially now.

He'd noticed his sister, Alice, had been on edge lately. He'd figured it was because of her visions of the newfound, bloodthirsty coven.

But, little did he know, she saw something else in the future, and was keeping it from him.

After the shape-shifters had left, his family and the visiting covens remained settling in their living room. Jasper had a shaking feeling that something was going to happen, but couldn't put his finger on what it could be.

Alicia, Emmett's friend, spoke about having another friend on the way who could help the family out. Esme, being cordial as she was, gladly accepted the offer.

A knock on the door, as if on cue, pulled his attention away from Alicia. The person on the other side greeted Carlisle and Esme, and invited the fellow vampire inside the house.

The person who walked into the living room had stopped him in his tracks.

She was the last person he expected to see. The familiar brown eyes and skin rapidly bringing back memories of his past.

But this time, they were pleasant.

"Hey, sugar. Long time, no see." She smiled softly, looking at him. He vampire sped over to her, enveloping her in his arms. At this point, the whole family took notice of the exchange. Everyone, except Alice, was puzzled as to what was going on.

"Jasper, who is she?" Edward asked him, telepathically.

"An old friend of mine." He simply responded.

A very good friend, indeed.
