"Why are you texting Jackson?" I ask over Jaxs shoulder.

"Hey, why are you here?" He asked with a small fright. I know when Jaxon is lying, he gets all happy and enthusiastic.

But I brush it off. "Parents are at it again and I would like a good night's rest." I take a seat on his couch.

The Millers home is like my second home. I come by whenever I want to and they always welcome me over. I sometimes stay over during weekdays because my parents start fighting again.

Fights over at my house get intense because it's such a huge house and all the walls become paper thin whenever they start arguing. My mom is usually the loudest but this time it's my dad.

"Okay." He nervously nods his head before drowning his eyes onto his screen again. I haven't even gotten a proper greeting.

"What is so interesting on that phone?"

My jaw ticked at the thought that he was texting Brianna. I wanted to snatch that phone and break it into two.

"I, your good friend, am inviting people to the biggest party of the year." He announced he started swiping across the screen and tapping on buttons.

"Is Jackson on the list?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"She's my friend now and her friend is already coming to the party so that means her and the gay one are an automatic plus one."

"Plus two." I glance at him and he nods his head.

"Do you want me to invite Hailey?" He glances up at me with a small unsure look.

Hailey has become such a sore topic when she isn't. It is as if I have to be heartbroken around her or be an asshole to her when I am not. Jaxon seems to get the silence and taps away at his phone.

I don't care whether she attends or not, just as long as she doesn't bother me.

I stand up and go to the bathroom to take a long needed shower. I let the water wash over me and the memories consume me.

The house was awfully chilly, Dad didn't fix the heating system. I pad down the steps into the living room. The basement door was right on the other side of the TV. I open the creaky door and wait for the usual gush of cold wind to creep up the stairs before I walk in. Each step creeks beneath my feet with each step I take. My vision blurs out while someone takes a grip of my arm and pulls me further into the basement.
