I sat in the corner of the room with the dim lights. Every time she stirred in her sleep my heart jumped out of my chest. It's been three days since we found her but her state was bad. The scars on her body were treated and were starting to heal a little. But what scared me the most was her mental health. Every time she woke up at first she went hysterical not understanding where she was and after seeing me she became silent. Her eyes were so empty, they killed me bit by bit. From yesterday I stopped going in when she was awake so now I was sitting in that damn corner.
That's why I ran for all my life. That's why I vowed not to commit to anybody. I felt sick and physically pained seeing her in that state. And knowing it was all my fault made me hate myself even more. I clenched my jaw thinking how scared she was. Despite her feistiness, no woman would take the tortures easily. Especially from the sick bastard. I sighed loudly seeing her shoulder from afar. The red outlines of bastard's initials made my blood boil.
I took all my courage in a fist and stood up slowly moving to her bed. I covered her with the blanket with shaky hands and went out closing the door behind me.
I knocked on the next door and opened it. I was greeted with a weak soft smile.
"Hi, Nancy," I said calmly.
I moved to her bed trying not to show her how devastated I was to see her with all those tubes and machines attached to her.
Her state was the worst. She was dangerously dehydrated and depleted. Her body was covered with scars and bruises and some wounds that were decaying. It looked like they covered them with some sort of chemicals to prevent them from healing. She was unconscious for three days and woke up only this morning.
I sat on the edge of her bed and patted her tiny hand.
"I'm so sorry..." she whispered with a broken voice.
"Don't. I know it wasn't your choice." I was quick to interrupt her.
I knew very well there was no chance in the world she was doing everything of her own will and the fact that we found her in the cage only confirmed it.
"You can tell me everything later and only if you want to," I assured her with a gentle smile. "You know, Tomas was so happy to hear I found you," I said seeing her eyes go wide. "He wanted to come and visit but I think I will let you choose. If you would like, we can send you back to him after you get better."
Her eyes watered and her lower lip started to tremble. Nancy squeezed my hand a little and nodded her head. These couple of days were hell and knowing I could make her life better made me a little calmer.
"She was so brave. She fought for me..." she leaned her head closer to me. "It's all my fault. I don't deserve..." pour girl was beyond broken. But the thought of my Emily fighting back made me weirdly proud.
"Listen here and listen to me good," I said sternly gaining her attention. "It's not your fault and don't you dare to ever doubt that. You will get better and you will start over. There's no other option for you, do you get me?" I furrowed my eyebrows at her.
"Okay, Sir," she said shyly.
"Call me Tony darling. Now rest. I will send someone to you later." I kissed her forehead and left.
Our meeting was held at my office as usual in the evening. Pouring myself some whiskey I leaned on the chair and rolled my eyes seeing Luca fight with Haker over some shit. We've been trying to find any trace of Russo's for a month now and were miserably failing.
Emily wasn't speaking with me. Well, actually it was me who avoided her. I knew the minute we would talk I would have to let her go and I was too selfish to do it. My fucked up mind thought the longer I avoid the conversation the longer I would at least see her.
