Author's POV

Uncomfortable silence covered the spacious living room. Salvatore and Luca were very tense looking at each other. They knew what kind of man Roman Volkov was and it was hard for them to believe that he had good intentions.

An old maid served them some tea while Emily sat with her hands on her belly rubbing it nervously. it wasn't so visible but she gained a habit of rubbing it whenever she felt nervous or scared or sad.

"So when's my nephew coming out?" Roman entered the area plopping on the couch.

"Why don't you start from the part where you tell us about your connection to our Emily?" Luca sneered at him suspiciously.

Roman only rolled his eyes passing a file to Emily.

"This is your real birth certificate and some old photos," he said.

Emily carefully took out some papers and photos examining them closely. It indeed was photos of her. Some of them were made from the shelter where she lived.

"I don't get it... But I am Elyzavetta Smirnova..." she said looking through the file.

"Smirnova was our mother's maiden last name," he explained. "Our family is well known as the biggest Mafia in Russia. We gained that status through the years with blood and lots of loss. When you were born I was only 5 years old but I knew what kind of life we were living. We were at the beginning of the war and our stupid dad promised you as bait. He wanted the support from Italy so he proposed to connect our families by marrying you and you wouldn't believe..." he trailed off. "Tony Campano."

Emily's pale face revealed shock. It was hard for her to finally know the truth but knowing that she should have been Tony's wife from the start made her eyes spill tears. She instantly remembered how Tony once told her how he took off from Italy because his father wanted to arrange a marriage for him. It all matched now.

"So as I was saying our father was a real freak back then. But our dear mom...She didn't want that for you. So she took off to the USA with you and hid you at some place in California. My dad came to his senses only when mom returned without you. But things got worse with the war we were having and dad made a decision to leave you safe and sound there and take you back when there won't be any danger for you. We were monitoring your life until you took off from your last foster family and disappeared from our radars," Roman took Emily's hand in his. "Unfortunately mom didn't make it to the day when Tony called us, inviting us to the ball. My men dug all the fresh info on him and when I saw your picture...There was no doubt that it was you. You look just like her," he caressed her cheek smiling sadly.

Emily sat frozen to the spot. These couple of months were overwhelming enough for her and now this. Her real family appeared in her life. She started to hyperventilate feeling her head going dizzy.

"I need some fresh air," she said weakly.

"Let me help you," Roman said supporting her by the waist and leading her to the garden.

"I know it's hard for you to forgive us. I was too small to influence my father's decisions," he said with a hint of anger in his tone motioning her to sit on a bench near a little pond.

"All my life I thought my parents hated me, that's why they left me..." she lowered her head.

Roman took a chance and embraced her in a hug letting Emily sob on his shoulder.

"Do you think it was easy for me to see your pictures that were taken from afar? Out mom never smiled after she hid you. The only time you could see her in a better mood was when the new photos came. And dad..." he sighed loudly. "Let's just say he is not an emotional man. But when he got to know you were alive and with Tony he immediately sent me to pick you up. I knew things were getting bad for Campanos and I got to know about the relationship you were having with Tony. But I didn't expect the mess you faced." he tightened his grip feeling Emily's sobs increase.

"I know it must be all overwhelming but please, I need you to go with me," he said carefully.

Emily stopped whaling and looked up at her newfound brother.

"Why do you want me to go with you? I am a grown woman and I don't think I want to face my father for now," she spat confidently. Despite all the grieving, Emily still was a stubborn woman and no one could tell her what to do.

"I don't want to take you to Russia. If you don't want to see father, I'm okay with that. It's just I think that you need to take some time off. You're having a baby and staying here is dangerous. You have no one to come back to States." Roman sighed loudly lowering his head. "Look, Lizzy. I know this is all too much but think about your baby. You need some time to heal and where to do it better than in Greece?"

"No way! You are not going anywhere!" Luca pointed his finger at Emily.

They all arrived back home and Emily broke the news that she was considering Roman's proposition.

"Don't start Luca..." Emily said in a tired voice.

It was a bold decision but all she wanted right now was to disappear and have some time to grieve. "Look let Salvatore rule here just like he wanted and I just want some peace in my life. Besides, Roman is my brother. I don't think I can end up in a worse mess than I am now." with that words she stood up and went to her bedroom.

She plopped on the bed and closed her eyes.

"How are you doing there, little bean?" she rubbed her belly softly. "I hope you grow up to be a strong brave man just like your daddy," her lips started to tremble seeing Tony's face behind her closed eyelids. "But I bet your daddy would want a little Princess. You would have loved to braid his long hair," she smiled imagining this in her head.

A phone call took her out of her thoughts and she picked up.

"Hey, little sis. So how did the lion pride take the news?" he mused.

"You know exactly how," she rolled her eyes moving to the wardrobe.

"Anyway, I will pick you up tomorrow before 10 AM. I have a surprise for you," Roman beamed like a happy kid.

It was so strange to have a brother. But counting all the circumstances, Emily was happy to have somebody by her side.

"Okay, see you tomorrow." she cut the call and started to pack her things.

It felt like the right choice to leave. She was now alone with just a ray of hope for a better future growing inside her.

Emily spent all her life without a mother and now she was becoming one. The pain of loss would never leave her heart but the hope for the best life for her child was giving her strength.

Making her way to the plane she bid her last goodbye to the gang and with a heavy heart prepared herself to live a life giving all her love to the only person she had. The little piece of the love of her life.
