I couldn't believe it. One moment Daisy was blushing about Amina, the next, being rude and then slapping Kitty. Straight on the face! As I hurried Daisy up to our dorm she kept on muttering, "Why did I do it. She deserved it. Amina...Why?"

I carefully placed Daisy on her bed. "Now Daisy, you mustn't feel upset about what's happened. It's Kitty's fault for taunting you."

"No," breathed Daisy. "She-She's right. I'm too...afraid." She looked nervous. This wasn't Daisy. She continued, "I'm afraid to admit that I like Amina. And Kitty saying that..." She shook her head and I flung my arms around her.

"Oh Daisy! Amina likes you! Of course she does! She's kissed you before, hasn't she?"

Daisy shook her head several times. "She doesn't now."

  "Daisy, what are you saying?"

"The whole year hates me. Did you see them all crowding around Kitty and simpering over her?"

I blinked. This wasn't Daisy. The Daisy I knew was full of love for detecting and being the leader. Not like this. "No," I said firmly. "The other fifth formers do not hate you. And besides, we're going to a murder case for the hols. Won't that be like the old times again?" Daisy didn't respond. "Anyways, I wanted to show you this. I've got a bigger problem on my hands than you do," I said. I showed her the letter from my father. Daisy read it.

"Well Hazel," she said, still reading and sounding like her old self again. "I must ask: how does your father know that Alexander has sent you the letter?"

"That's what I'm trying to figure out," I told her.

"Maybe your father has got eyes at the back of his head," Daisy said.

I felt myself burning hot. "No he doesn't," I cried.

Daisy gave me a weird look before saying, "Just don't tell your father that we're going to Eastfield. How easy is that?"

"Are you sure?" I almost whispered.

Daisy looked annoyed. "Do you still think that he has got eye-"

"Alright, I'll do it!" I said, my cheeks rising up again. "Well, that's settled then. See you at the crime scene Watson." As Daisy left the dorm, I suddenly wondered, What's everyone going to say about Daisy when she comes out? She needed me, even if she didn't know it. I sighed and followed her. Everyone was red faced today.
