"Are you sure?" I asked her anxiously.

Beanie had stormed down with tears everywhere on her face. She looked at me angrily. "YES!" she screeched. My eyes widened. I had never seen her in such a rage before.

Daisy glared at her. "That's my best friend you're talking to," she growled. Daisy can be quite mean when she wants to. Beanie rolled her eyes. I had never seen her roll her eyes before; now that she had done it, it was quite a shock.

"Well, why don't you sit down?" suggested George. "Then we can help you after you tell us what's wrong."

Beanie huffed but did what he said. I put my arm around her. "What's wrong, Beanie?" I asked gently. Beanie looked at me and her anger evaporated. Next thing I knew, her head was on my shoulder and she was crying uncontrollably.

"K-Kitty, she," Beanie gulped and the others settled down next to us. "I-I wo-oke up and...and sh-she was i-in m-my bed and-" Beanie started wailing again.

"Right," Daisy said firmly. "Don't start sniffing. Don't you and Kitty always snuggle together?" Daisy looked at me. Sometimes, Daisy would crawl into my bed, or I hers. Mainly to talk about girl stuff, boys, mysteries and to think.

Beanie looked at her. "O-of course! I-It's just th-that sh-she had h-her arms around me a-and-" Beanie took a dep breath and her stuttering calmed down. "I think she's into me!" she blurted out.

Everyone was silent. Especially George and Alexander, whose eyes were both wide open. I remembered what Daisy had told me before. 'Boys,' she had scowled. Don't know what girls do, do they? They don't even understand girl stuff!' Then, after that, I had pointed to Daisy that there was no reason George or Alexander could have understood what we thought because they were the opposite gender.

Lavinia laughed. "Well, of course. Haven't you realised yet?" Beanie looked confused. I sighed. "Lavinia, I think we ought to tell her our suspicions."

                                                                                         ***

After we had told her about our suspicions, Beanie was back to her old self. "Well," she said dismissively. "I don't want her to have her arms around me every night. I don't mind sharing a room with Lavinia, seeing as she already has a boyfriend." Lavinia looked a bit flattered at this, but instantly turned red as Beanie said that she was George's girlfriend. Daisy said that she could tell Hetty to find Kitty a spare room and Lavinia could move in with Beanie.

I looked at the time. "Gosh, we're going to be late!" I yelped.

Alexander looked anxiously up the stairs. "Should we wait or just...?" I looked at him. "The Detective Society does not leave members behind," said Daisy's voice from a faraway distance. I looked at her. My line. That was my line, but oh well.

"I think," I announced. "Half of us can go to James while the other stays here."

"Won't that be just like last time?" Lavinia grumbled.

"Al-Alright then," I said to her. "We'll all go. Beanie, I think you need to make up with Kitty, so you can stay here." Daisy looked at me, surprised. She has never thought of me taking control, but now, here I was, taking control

Beanie pouted. "Fine," she said under her breath.

When we departed the house, we could still see Beanie, looking up the stairs and then craning her neck to look at us. I had a bad feeling that Beanie would not be very likely to forgive Kitty, but I mustn't get my hopes down.
