"I'm telling you, if you're ego gets any bigger than this, you won't be able to fit into the shirts you packed for the trip."
I numbly giggled as I watched Daisy and James squabble over who was going to spy on Amber.
"Well guess what?" James challenged. "I brought larger shirts than your future boyfriend will own!"
Daisy's mouth hung open before she registered the shock she'd gone into. James proudly puffed out his chest. I rolled my eyes.
"Daisy, James..." I began.
"Why doesn't Hazel pick who should stalk Amber, then?" challenged Daisy, raising an eyebrow.
"Um, because she's going to pick herself?"
"That's it," I grumbled. "I wasn't going to pick myself, but if you say so James, yes, I will pick myself."
Daisy smirked and James threw his hands up in the air. "I'll just dibs the relaxing and staying in the room part."
"Sure, whatever you say," shrugged Daisy. "I'll take the job where I'll take a look around the ship. Just admit it James," she added. "I think each job suits us."
I acknowledged the mocking tone she had used and I laughed. James sitting on the bed was far more imaginable than him trying to do 'ninja steps' and tailing everyone. However, James must've been a lot more denser than Daisy and I thought. "All right," he chirped. "Bye!" And with that, he shooed us out of our cosy cabin.
"Sometimes," I said, shaking my head while trying not to trip over my own feet on the polished wooden floor. "I just don't know what to do with him."
"You know, Watson, I think I agree with that too," Daisy responded, scrunching up her nose.
"See you back here in an hour?"
"Bye."
I sighed. I hated that about Daisy. Sometimes she wouldn't seem to even give a care in the world to me, to anyone, to everything. Sometimes it was like I was the hopeful girl, desperately in love, and Daisy was the boy who broke everyone's heart.
I wandered down the corridors of the ship, marveling here and there. Soon, I ended up in the game room. Adults filled the space. I gulped. I was not supposed to be here. As I was backing out of the door, an obviously very drunk man stopped me. He put his hand on my shoulder.
"What's a girl like you doin' here?" he questioned, slurring at his words. I jumped, frightened.
"I-I..."
"Don' worry," he said. "You can stay wit' me."
"No, I think I'll leave," I said bravely.
"No, no, no." He began slowly dragging me away, his breath stinging my eyes.
"Stop!" I screamed, but no one turned a head in my direction. "Help!" I tried beating the man off me, but being a grown man, he didn't flinch. His nails dug into my pale skin. Tears stung at my eyes. "Please," I begged to no one in particular. "Help me."
In an instant, a purple handbag invaded my vision. The grip on me was gone, and I glanced at my arm, where purple bruises were beginning to spring up.
"Stay away from her, if you know what's good for you," a woman's voice warned.
The man, who seemed scared of the woman, quickly nodded and scampered away. Before I could thank her, my mysterious saver had already hurried away. I sucked in my breath as I realised it was Amber. Thankfully, she didn't turn her head back, otherwise she would've seen me following her.
I didn't dare make a sound. I carefully maneuvered my way around objects and people. I landed in what seemed like Amber's own cabin.
She flopped down on the bed and began to remove her make-up. My jaw dropped as she revealed to have the same coloured skin as me, with smooth softly-defined eyebrows and plump lips.
I whimpered, half thinking it was an honour to be able to witness this. The other half screamed danger at me and my feet almost gave me away. But mainly what I was worried about was the fact that I was honouring a weird honour. Doesn't really make sense to me.
(i left this draft yesterday and now it's like 8:02am and while i'm updating my sister is trying to cram a really tiny hat on my head and school starts in, like, fifteen minutes or something)
Amber rolled her eyes. At first I thought she saw me and I quietly gasped. Turns out she was rolling her eyes at absolutely nothing. I knew what Daisy would make of this situation. She would whisper, 'What a weirdo.'
(UPDATE: my sister is trying to make me stop typing by violently pulling my arm away from the laptop with her nails)
"Kids these days," she muttered under her breath. "They think they're so-o-o smart, but I think I'll get away with it." She chuckled darkly. My whole body tensed, alarmed. What was this side to a woman with many secrets that I had not seen? That Daisy nor James had seen either?
In one swift movement, she pulled out an ID card. I immediately raised the camera I'd brought with me and snapped a picture. I couldn't see what the card said, but I would have to closely identify it when I had some time.
"No one knows," Amber whispered, clutching the card close to her chest. She stood up, and before I knew what was happening, she stepped out of the door. I shrank back, cursing myself for not noticing the fact that I was right outside of her compartment. Thankfully, she didn't see me, as she turned her head and headed in the other direction.
